Brief and sometimes prolonged flashes of individual talent helped the baby bruins through some rough spotsg and their performances, on the whole, in- dicated a potential that should dazzle within the next few years. 2. S l Zi if A ri E 4 An improved season, an annual beach trip and a twenty- four hour marathon highlighted a memorable season for Bruin Cross Country Men. Although Coach Donald Aaberg is looking forward to a greater season next year, he stated that he was delighted with the Bruin effort put forth this year, and cited four athletes that he felt were outstanding: Tony Sperb, Richard Ely, Joe Ierulli, and Harvey Meyers. These four guys continually turned in good performances, he noted. The outlook was rather sceptical at the year's onset. The Cross Country squad was comparitively young: so young, in fact, that three sophomores were moved up to the varsity level, However, most problems were quickly overcome, due to dedication and hard work. l. Senior Tony Sperb leads the Barlow Cross Country Team as they enter the victory line at the homecoming game at the conclusion of the 24 hour marathon. 2. Barlow's three outstanding J.V. runners Dan Ledbury, John Boesch, and Kim Nelson cross the top of the Barlow field in the last mile of competition against West Linn. 3. ROW l: Coach Don Aaberg, Arlen Eichner, Dave Westfall, Harvey Meyer, Joe lerulli, Tony Sperb, Rob Monnie.
