LUCILE CROUSER Department Added The Special Education Program, for the first time was moved to Barlow. This program presented each individ- ual student with a meaningful exper- ience during his secondary school years. The goals included planning logical and progressive curriculum from the freshman through the senior year. Each student received individual in- struction in the basic subject areas of social, academic, and vocational at- titudes and skills. He was also to learn to recognize and accept his roll as a contributing member of society. Particularly important were the goals of achieving economic independ- ence with classes in homemaking, shop, and work experience.

Kay Larie not only visited health classes, investi- gated illnesses and absentees but also functioned in accidents. The custodians put their efforts into re- pairing and cleaning the building, now in its third year. The cooks turned to the stomachs of the stu- dents and developed the breakfast program. Equal- ly behind the scenes was the secretarial staff that answered phones and correspondence, made an- nouncements, took care of the student and school bookkeeping, kept track of teacher and student at- tendance, and dispursed school supplies. Finally, the bus drivers made sure that the students were brought to school and returned home in ice and snow. Although classified as non-professional, these people were really pro's. 4.
