Encounter, challenge, enrichment, commitment — these are the core Words from which evolves the truly educated person. When these are placed within the framework of a sound theological and philosophical discipline the result is the flowering of a Christian perspective, the matur- ing of a well-rounded personality. Encounter marks the freshmen world of discov- ery and experimentation not only in the aca- demic sphere but even more so in the adjustment to campus life and upperclassmen. The sopho- more measures the highway ahead and chooses sometimes the road less traveled by. In any case there is deliberation, a certain wariness and, of course, wisdom. Enrichment is the key to the position of the college junior, absorption in the field of concentration, analysis, comparison, depth — these are the hallmarks of the third year student. Social activity, relationships with faculty and with each other share in the pro- gression toward excellence. The senior stands at the beginning of a commitment to life. Time past, time present, time future blend in the quintessence of achievement which is paradox- ically to be tested beyond these gates. The en- counter, the challenge, the enrichment, the com- mitment are ever present in ever varying degrees. This book celebrates one facet of these attributes, a segment of life set within the boundaries of college years — college years in our Modern era. College years, yes, but years spent at Salve Regina. The Regina Maris of 1965 endeavors to present to all its readers student life at this college by the sea. With pride we show you our campus, our administration and faculty and ourselves. It is a picture book but also a book which depicts more than what meets the eye-sight and insight, the one encompasses the other. You will find here dedication, loyalty, friendliness, and diligence. You will share in the encounter, the challenge, the enrichment, the commitment. So come, come within our gates.
