It is a book which laughs and sings with the exuberance of youth or is at once pensive and frivolous, depicting the mood of the moment. Here, too, is the awakening curiosity for things intellectual and the ever-wid- ening realization of things spiritual. Its horizons are endless for it is concerned with the finite and the infinite, with time and eternity, with man and with God. Herein is outlined the knowledge which leads to wis- dom, the growth which results in maturity and the goodness which depends upon grace. Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever holy, whatsoever lovely — these are found here. We have but to take and read. Bird ' s 8ye iew of Salve White-Holm, site for the new dorm, just across the road, is the Mecca for this group of Seniors. I must go down to the sea again is an appropri- ate quote for our book. These seniors are privi- leged to have an inside view of the Naval Base. 4 . r 0 v . • 5- And Mewport Scene of the Vanderbilts ' hospitality . . . focal point for a Cup Race celebration dinner— The Breakers— President Kennedy addressing the Australian Embassy. Newport, city of luxurious warmth, welcomes you, Mr. President and First Lady, on your visit. DEDICATION Nine o ' clock each morning finds Sister Mary Hilda ready for the day ' s work. o. ur minds look upward and outward for the measure and standard of excellence. The great center for us is the Word who expressed Himself in time and communicated His eternal thoughts to us. This same Word abiding in the souls of men sheds his Light on our darkness in the person of one who crosses our path and in ways we, perhaps, know not fully, influences, affects, and molds our destiny. In our lives here as college students our president, Sister Mary Hilda, has been a reflection of that greater Light, an echo of that deeper Wisdom, and a mouth-piece of that living Word. In graciousness, in solicitude, in admoni- tion and in charity, she has led us to a clearer vision of Christian living. Thus, for all of this and much more, to Sister Mary Hilda, R.S.M. we gratefully dedi- cate the Regina Maris of 1963. William Gaige, president of Rhode Island College, honors Sister Mary Hilda with an honorary degree in the presence of Michael WaWh, former State Commissioner of Education. Jn the beginning was the word . . . T he great Eternal Word whose Life is Light has been transmitted to us in the heritage of faith through the Church. This page presents members of the Class of 1963 who have achieved noteworthy grades during their college years. It signifies an intellectual curiosity, and an attitude of perseverance and scholarship. These students met the challenge of the college curriculum as it was unfolded for them year after year. They participated in college life, in the academic, the social and the spiritual. They have felt this discipline of study and for them this experience has brought a sharpening of critical judgment, a maturity of outlook. There has been an enrichment of mind, an appreciation of both the scientific and the cultural, and a deeper knowledge of the philosophical and the theological. Truly, a progression toward excellence. 60 Patricia Bradbury Dorothy Katz DOREENE OLIVEIRA Dorothy Overbury Marguerite Williamson Marie Robinson Margaret Whalon V- u }n im was life . . . m, Ioments of contemplation and dedication. Nursing 129 EPILOGUE G lo, little book, the story is finished, but not quite, for the utterance of the first word and the kindling of the first light goes back in time beyond the boundaries of the years depicted here. We must return to the hearth-fires of our own homes where the gentle touch of a mother ' s hand and the quiet love of a father ' s labor encircled our lives. Here in the very beginning the first childish impulse was disciplined, the first question answered and the first prayer repeated. This book is but a fruition of those early years. Then, go, little book, as a testament to those who have been and still are to each one of us a witness to the Word and a kindly light. nffl ■mm m DIRECTORY CLASS OF 1963 JOAN HELEN BAESZLER 115 Freeman Parkway, Providence, Rhode Island N.F.C.C.S. 1,2,3,4; Art Club 2,3; Commuters ' Club 2,3,4.
