What better can we ask of you of the UCourageousU Session than that you live up to your session name? You will face situations in which courage will he the one vital element. The gallant pluck to hold on in spite of everything will pro- vide the margin for eventual victory. God has given you promises. He will not fail. But all God's promises are conditional. God expected Joshua to use his military skill, his physical strength and his moral courage. These, together with God's almighty aid, would win a promised land. We too must use all the means at our commend, natural and spiritual, if we would inherit the promises. ln this adventure of Salvation Army Officership, in this calling to save and serve, you will need to be bold, determined, loyal, persevering ... you will need to he courageous! Go out and on with a courage born of faith in a never-failing God. Be will bless and keep and use you! S nc rel you 5, HFEIYT ' Bramllell Tri pl Brigadier

FCHJNDEP TERRITORIAL HEADQUARTERS 7Y9 NORTH STATE STREET F cs o THE TERFQITQNAL COMMANDER CHICAGO Io' ILUNOIS January 28th. 1958. Cadets of the 'Courageous' Session, Chicago, Illinois. My Dear Sons and Daughters of Courage a It is a joy to greet you in this special way, through the medium of your Session Year Book. I first met you as individuals, persons who had heard Christ's voice, in various parts of our Central Battlefield. Then you made me aware of your calling of God, in Christ, ' to leave all and .follow Him in service as Salvation Army officers. To this end there came a memorable and glad day when we met, in His Name, in the School for Officers' Train- ing, at a fellowship welcome dinner, and then for the first never-to-be-forgotten meeting in the place of a thousand and more sacred memories, that Upper Room , the Lecture Hall. My observations of you have encouraged me, and inspired me to pray more and labor more in your behalf, that without ex- ception each of you would receive inner light and deep con- viction to develop that quality of mind that enables one to face danger, without and within - COURAGEI Put on the whole armour of Godg follow the divine instruc- tions you have received, prove God in every situation in living and serviceg and glorify Him by continually being strong and of a good courage. My love, my prayers for you, and always nv faith in youl Yours sincerely, P ' f' Clilanrm 15. Batesj COHMISSIONER F I
