OUR PAS Now, as we near the end of our Senior year, let us take just one quick backward glance over our four years of high school. September, I952, brought the beginning day of our Freshman year as twenty-five mystified students trouped through the doors of Saluda High School. All of us were surrounded by the upper classmen, offering to sell us their knowledge which they had acquired during their years of high school. During the first week of school we were called together for our first class meeting to elect a sponsor, and we chose Mary Lou Myers. After having learned our way around we spon- sored a tea party for our mothers in December. A picnic was held at Clifty Falls State Park after we had finally paid our class dues at the end of that year. Exactly twenty-two students returned for their Sophomore yeatg only three less than the previ- ous year. To begin the activities for our Sophomore year we again chose Mary Lou Myers to guide us. During the year we purchased a record player for the school. In April of that year we ordered our class rings which were received in October. These rings represented all of the hard work which we had done in our high school days and were worn proudly, and will be for many years to come. The conclusion of our Sophomore year found us at Clifty Falls State Park enjoy- ing the usual picnic. The year of 1954-55 brought seventeen industrious students back to attend their Junior year. At the first class meeting of that year we selected Delbert King as our sponsor to direct our activities. On March 31 and April I the Junior and Senior classes presented the annual Junior and Senior play, Cyclone Sally , a comedy, directed by Mrs, Wood, before a very large and appreciative audience. As other means of making money for our trip at the end of the year we had a paper and scrap iron drive Concluding our Junior year along with the Seniors we went to Daytona Beatfhli Florida. Eighteen determined Seniors returned to realize their goal of receiving their diplomas. Delbert King was again chosen as our sponsor. The first major undertaking of this, our Senior year, was getting ads for our yearbook. Soon after, we chose the editor for our yearbook, S. H. S. Memories, and then the committees for the various departments were chosen to begin work and gather informa- tion. Oh, yesl I remember our annual Christmas parties each year with all the pretty lights, deco- rations, and, of course, the pretty girls in their new dresses. The Junior and Senior play, Look .Out, Lizzie , was given on April 5 and 6. This production was under the direction of Mrs. Wood. Bacca- laureate was held Sunday, May 13, in the Mt. Zion Methodist Church. Commencement was Thursday May 17, in the Saluda Gymnasium. On May 22nd we left on our annual school trip bound for New Orleans, Louisiana, Written by Zelma Schirmer I
