PROPHECY Yes, Sir, I discarded my old 1950 Buick and Piper Cub airplane in order to buy a new Bowman Lion Magic Carpet. Before I purchased the beautiful all-gold magic carpet, I looked at the guarantee and noticed that it was invented by Verlin Bowman who is now competlting with his father. Because Verlin discovered the secret passage to the gold buried at Fort Knox, he manufactured the Carpet out of pure gold. Off I sail on my Magic Carpet. My eyes could hardly believe it when I beheld the view of Saluda. So many times I have reminisced about my high school class of 1951. I get off my Carpet and explore the community. Say, what is this I see? A ball game it is, and it is nSaluda's Diamond Dotsn versus WBab's Bloomer Babes.n The star for Saluda is slim and trim Geneva Williams, of course. Chlz Stillhammer, who has now retired from teaching, is the all time manager. Being interested in sports, I wander over to the colossal Field House. A basketball game is in progress, and the head coach is Ray- mond Hall. The star player was Clifford Bare, who is truly a profes- sional. After trying his hand as an artist, manufacturer, opera star, and playboy, he finally decided that he could only be contented play- ing basketball. Yes, indeed, many changes have occurred in Saluda. It is Quite a metropolis. The state has reserved a section which will be used for a university . Robert Lawson is running for President. In his platform he claims that he loves little children and knows all the bums ln Amer- ica. The organization for which he is running calls itself the Hobo's Union. After leaving the Field House, I wonder who the dean of Saluda is. I enter a reception room and the smiling, charming face of Wanda Nighbert awaits me. She accompanies me into the Dean's office, and asked if I knew that Mr. Marvin Amos had been promoted to the posi- tion. He greeted me in the usual cordial manner. As he rose from his chair, I oouldn't help but notice that he had grown with the school. During our conversation Mr. Amos told me that Don Ellis had won fame in England as winner of the Marathon Race. After an enjoyable conver- sation with my two old friends, I get on a subway and ramble deeper into the city. when I get off the subway, I hear a familiar style of music. I peer closer and I see Gabby CAlbertJ Monroe directing a band that is called uSaluda Noise Makersu. Each night he has a breath taking stage show. Miss Mary Sample is an honorary member and her duty is to give pep talks before each performance. As I go along, I notice the extremely beautiful architecture in the vicinity. George nBruno' Browning told me that he designed the buildings using only a saw and hammer. Bruno also told me that Anna Lee Darrah was head instructor in Betty Wolf's Charm School. Miss Darrah has her own program on the local television station in which she gives advice to those who are distressed. While I have the oppor- tunity, I want to go to her for some tips on how to improve my hair style. By now I'm beginning to get hungry, and I stop at the nearest restaurant. The sign outside reads ND1x1e's Fried Chicken Dlnnern and it is opened especially for the truck drivers and the Sunday afternoon travelers. Its fame has spread and people Journey from all over Ind- iana just to eat her home cooked food. I hear an Irish crooner singing a lullsby. Here is he coming 1n- to view and it is Donald HRedn 0'Neal. His unusual version of the Lullaby Rag has the nation talking. I was told that Shirley Beach and Gene Stockdale had their own private business. It is a traveling agency that will plan your vaca- tion for you. Mr. Beach drives the sight seeing bus, and Mr. Stock- dale polnts out the interesting and historic sights. Kenneth Fuller in his high school days always liked the quiet life, and besides loafing his chief pastime was squirrel hunting and making freouent trips to Walnut Street. All in all my classmates have done well. It has been a lovely experience seeing them again. Now I will go to my home ln Rhode Is- land where I will practice my daily two hours on the typewriter. I'm still working for the title of World Champion typist. Esther Bruner
