tudents at Saltsburg refuted William Shakespeare's belief that we cannot all be masters as they gained recognition for outstanding achievements in various areas. Through their accomplishments, they continued their climb to greater successes and opportunities. Faculty and administration at Saltsburg have responded by r raising expectation standards for students. With this ambitious challenge, they are continually improving performances which have resulted in higher levels of student achievement. This year many students appeared on the honor roll list, with the minimum required G.P.A. of 3.0. Also there were those who pushed themselves and obtained an outstanding 4.0 G.PA. Some of the best students were recognized in the National Honor Society. These students display outstanding performance in the areas of leadership. scholarship, and character. An example of achievement occurred on October 24, 1987, as students enthusiastically cheered Vince Ciocca while he received the Extra Effort Award from KDKA. The award represents outstanding scholarship, superb athletic ability, and involvement in many school activities. Mr. Klimchock’s nomination of Vince marked Saltsburg’s first attempt at winning that award, and he was chosen over a field of 200 other candidates from Western Pennsylvania. As these students struggled to achieve academically they raised the standard of excellence for all students. Keep in mind the words of t popular proverb that states, “Success is a journey, not a destination. ’ always nice to know that someone will go out of their way to help you, and Mr. Klimchock has done that for me. On October 9, 1987, during the half time oj the game against Penns Manor, the five young ladies comprising the court walked to the center of the field to await the announcement of the 1987 Homecoming Queen. The girls listened anxiously as the loud speaker congratulated the new 1987 Saltsburg Junior-Senior Homecoming Queen Barb McMillen. Barb McMillen escorted by John Wright cant believe like a dream 13
