Difference SALTSBURG HIGH -fJnuo[(j£m nt. SALTSBURG HIGH I oni Gularski, Kristie Shaulis, Diane Emanuel, Christine Orvosh, and Dawn Smith find pleasure in being involved with the band. A crowd gathers to cheer on the senior volleyball players. The first day of school began on September 2, 1986. Changes in the curriculum and policy set the tone for a year full of academic highs as students sought a quality education. The new “credit” policy was felt as this year’s sophomores and their successors strived to obtain more credits, because of new state regulations. This new policy required an involvement on the part of the students—an everyday involvement. Also the new class officer election system, devised by first year guidance counselor Mr. Klimchok, showed clearly the goal of the administration; it required a commitment of the students to get involved. The 1986-87 school year provided students with many opportunities to get involved. Students were able to choose from activities such as Taxidermy Club, Varsity Club, F.F.A., Yearbook, Student Council, Students Against Drunk Driving, Saltshaker, Band, and Chorus. In addition the Gymnastic Club, Intra-Mural activities, Y.E.A., and Craft Club were offered to expand students’ fields of interest. The Student Council presented a Drug Awareness Program, coordinated a Teacher Appreciation Breakfast, and held a Dance A-Thon for Children’s Hospital. Also the advanced physics class produced and presented a Senior Slide Show. Involvement also took place in other forms such as long hours of practicing for a sports activity, preparing and planning to host the Cheering and Majorette Contests, and practicing for a concert. Behind all of these were many long hours of practice and hard work. The determination to be the best gave everyone the incentive to strive to make S.H.S. a place of which to be proud. '
