Senior Class History In the fall of nineteen hundred and forty-five we, the 'Forty-Niners,” entered Salisbury High School. We weren't seeking any precious metals but instead, something priceless — a higher education. With sixty-seven of us to start, we felt confident that we would find what we were hunting. Miss Kohlhepp, Miss Koch, and Mr. Swauger were chosen to help us on our first adventure. Patricia Robinson was our class leader. The main claims we had were the Initiation, given by the Seniors, and the Sweater Hop. We were still a little green” yet, when we were told our first trip was over. Now we were ready for a second adventure. A few had decided to discontinue the trip but there were still a great many eager ones. Mrs. Dunmire was chosen to lead us and Loretta Grabiak to assist her. The Halloween Dance, we discovered, was very successful. In December we obtained something very worthwhile — our class rings. At last we were getting close to our destination. We plodded along until finally we could rest for three months. Back we came to continue on our Prospecting Trip.” Miss Christy led us that year. For our class leader we elected Katherine Sutyak. The Halloween Dance, again worked out fine. Getting more experienced we were permitted to travel a little farther than in former years. This time we had the class play, Gabriel Blow Your Horn and found it was worth all the hard work. Soon spring came and with it the Junior-Senior Prom. Our usual working clothes and tools were left behind for the night and instead, the girls wore frilly gowns and the boys their best suits. After that, time went quickly and, we found our vacation had come. This year we started our final trip together. There are only forty-seven of us now. Miss Kohlhepp advised us for the busiest adventure of all. Rodney Clawson was chosen to lead us on to the finish. Another Halloween Dance and a few other dances were held. In the spring we had another eventful happening—our class play. With the Baccalaureate and Commencement services we realized that our route for four years was over. We weren't happy now. All our companions would be gone. But we had proved successful. The knowledge we were seeking, we had found through our teachers and text books. Now we are leaving with the hope that the next graduating class will also succeed as we have succeeded 21 — Thk '49ER
