Foreword chool spirit may awaken the imagination of some to thoughts of a football stadium crowded to its walls with cheering fans, colorful cheerleaders jumping and waving, and a squad of energetic athletes charging onto the field. No one can deny that these display spirit, but the idea of loyalty covers a wider field of persons and activities than sports. Loyalty consists of many strands of school life, inter- woven into unity both admirable and beneficial. The im- portant aim of Salpointe, a student's realization of his final end through spiritual, mental, and physical development, is accomplished within the combination of classes and acti- vities. Students work together, reaping a harvest of knowl- edge from the transplanting of ideas and experiences. The efforts of the student body assure the success of clubs and activities and prove that loyalty is a reality, not a fictitious creation designed to urge individuals to contribute their talents and capabilities. Loyalty must be felt deep within a student, bubbling and surging to escape in a display of love and consideration for his school. He must mean the words that he sings in the Alma Mater, Hail to Salpointe, dearest and true. The able guidance of the administration and the co- operation of the faculty has resulted in a student body united in fulfilling its pledge to God and country. Every- one is proud to claim allegiance to the Crusader's banner, held firm and high. In the '57 Horizons we have attempted to capture the spirit of loyalty, the spirit of Salpointe, the spirit of 1957.
