It is to them that the annuai staff dedicates THE ODYSSEY. Who are these ideal students? They are the students who have certain characteristic-s about their personality that make for the best scholars and leaders of tomorrow. These students have sincerity of thought, appreciation for the finer things in life, honesty toward themselves and others, sportsman- ship in all they do, are leaders of their fellows, have generosity toward others, integrity and initiative, besides the knowledge gathered while in school. The students who are striving to, meet these goals are the students to whom we dedicate THE ODYSSEY OF 1958. 4-f-1,-,:....,--Y , Y . --v -, -w -.- - N , N -.r--fm - v.--fry f in pk:-y!u:y,nuf 4 . All passengers on board please, the voice announced over the speaker system. Here it is 1962 and here I am in New York City, about to depart for Las Vegas. I am Patsy Ramsden, a stage actress and drama teacher. I'm going to teach at Salome High this school year, now that my season on Broadway is over. Hi, there! a familiar voice greeted me. I glanced around to see Karl Young. What a surprise to see him! Where are you going? Las Vegas, I answered. And you? Chicago. I have a date with a cute girl there, was the answer. Karl hadn't changed much--only that now with his millions he could afford more extensive traveling. He was still a bachelor but I didn't think he would stay that way too long with all his oil wells. The hours passed quickly as Karl and I talked old times. We were now landing in Chicago. Did you hear about Jean Messick? Karl asked me. No. What is she doing and where is she? I asked. Karl informed me that Jean and her husband, Dick, were living in Chicago. I had two hours to wait so I decided to look her up. Karl gave me her address and phone number and soon I was sitting in Jean's beautiful living room overlooking Lake Michigan. She was very happy as the mother of a cute little boy and smiling baby girl. Christine is two now, and Richard just turned three the other day, she told me. Dick now owns many frozen foods companies all around the United States, and a coffee plantation in Puerto Rico. I was glad to find Jean so happy and to hear that her and Dick's dreams were coming true. I boarded my plane again and was headed for Las Vegas. I had a date with a friend of mine that evening and we were going to the Golden Nugget. That evening my date and I we re watching the floor show when I could have sworn I saw a familiar face doing a dance. I inquired of the young lady's name and found it to be Bubbles Davis. It couldn't be Ann, could it, I thought. I went backstage to find out and L 're enough, it was she. There were tears in her eyes. W'hat's the matter, Ann? I asked. She then showed me the beautiful diamond on her finger. It's my last night. I'll be married tomorrow and I ca.n't work any longer, she explained. I'm really glad for a change of atmosphere. My fiance is truly wonderful! I left Ann happy and contented and returned to my date. Miss Patsy Ramsden wanted at the main desk, the speaker announced. I jumped and then excused myself. At the desk I was told to go to the Executive Lounge. I was led to a table set off from the re st and there I found Patty Breedlove and Richard West, the owners of the Golden Nugget. It's a partnership, Richard explained about the Nugget . It's brought millions! I'm having a ball! Patty told me. I like it here, They smiled at each other and told me of their wonderful time. I was sure happy for them. It seemed like a miracle the way things happened. Then I recalled my flight number. Flight 17. Seventeen is my lucky number! That's it! Flight 17 was a lucky flight. My lucky number had stayed by me after all these years and what a pleasant way to prove it! It was really nice to see the rest of the class of '58 again.
