A position he holds to this day. With his vast experience as a coach, athlete, and teacher, he has been able to be of considerable help to students of Salmon High in shaping up their personalities to best fit their future-desired careers. Although Mr. Hays has been a stern taskmaster both in his classroom and on the basketball court, the students who have graduated have come to learn the wisdom of his method and to appreciate the fact that what he did was for their own good. To these two fine' teachers who have been such an inspiration to their students over the years, we, the Annual Staff, respectfully dedicate the i959 Savage Chief. MRS STONE MR. As everyone had long feared the country instead of going to the dogs has gone to the psychiartrists. Everyone is happily maladiusted especially the class of '59 who are all now safely entombed in Silbaugh's Solarium for Slap Happy Schizos. As we enter the gate, we find Don Aldous B' ilie caretaker, throwing a saddle on everyone who comes in. He still thinks he's back at the home corral . Baumert and Benedict still like pancakes. As a matter of fact they have trunks full of them. Jim Bills has been confined to a padded cell because he won't quit saying l want my Mapa . Larry Bishop has a typing eraser three feet in diameter trying to erase the words no refund off the bottom of a beer bottle so he can get his money back. Denny Havens and Dale McAtee authored a controversial book entitled So You Think the World is Round but Linda Chipman and Adele Banks had it banned in Boston because they thought the title was too sexy. Bob Mathews still won't have anything to do with the dictionary until they make it into a movie. Ellloffmaj and Ramon Maxey have crossed apotato with a sponge so it would soak up moreigravy. Mel Jensen and Sandy Sims are working on a zip gun that looks like Jane Mansfield so that opponents will be caught off guard. Jerry Noh, and Jerry Van Hoose are in here for trying to row a boat back up the River of No Return . Bill Parmenter is working in the kitchen. He dots the I's in the Alphabet soup. Sharon Miller has recorded an album of Music to Giggle By . Bonnevere Tracy and Louise Pattee have designed a school bus with a dump truck body for rapid ejection of students. Virginia Stewart just sits and waits for Whistler's Mother to start rocking. Ina Kay Smith collects funny papers and then spends hours drawing pupils in Orphan Annie's eyes. Jane Austin and Karen Sorensen both went mad after making their first million. He puts currants in the buns. Sheri Bisson and Rose Roberts have developed the world's simplest shorthand. When you write, you just leave out the vowels and consonants. Linell Corbett, LeDell Jolley, and LaRee Andrews are now top ranking officers in a secret organization known as the Tribunal for Terrible Treatment of Tecthed Teachers . Jim Herndon has just come out with a special TV cosmetic for men known as Young Doctor's Cologne . Linda Chipman, Adele Banks, and Carol Hancock run an organization whose sole purpose is to fill such places as - Silbaugh's Solarium for Slap Happy Schizos . Their motto, Why Be Half Witted? As we leave this slap happy class of '59 we can't help feel that they all have one great fear: Namely, that some day some great shock may drive them all completely sane like their former teachers. 14 Senior Will We, the Senior Class of i959 being of sound mind and limb and wishing to leave our mark upon those who shall so luckily inherit our benefits, do hereby bequeath this as our Last Will and Testament. Season's Record The Savages, after getting off to a terrific start in conference play by defeating Shelley Zi to 7, lost its steam due to iniuries and inexperience and finished out the season with a very mediocre record of l win, 8 losses, and l tie. The Orange and Black eleven showed good form at times, especially in holding the Madison Bobcats to 7 points in an exciting homecoming game. Prospects For the l959 season are a little more promising however. Playing bigger and more experienced teams, the Papooses played much better ball than the statistics indicate. The squad is to be congratulated for playing a very fine brand of team ball with few out- standing stars but many good all-round players. It is from the ranks of such teams as this that the hopes for better football teams shall arise. The material produced by this team will do much to foster a good varsity team spirit in l959. At the beginning of the current basketball season, the Savages under Coach George Hyas, look better than they hadin some of the past seasons. However as the season rolled along, long and frequent road trips against heavy opposition told the story and the Savages ended the season with ll wins and 9 losses. Many of the losses were by small margins. SEASON'S RECORD Although they started slow, the Junior Varsity, under coach Harvey Welch, came along stronger as the season progressed. Like the Varsity, the JV's found the season rougher as we went into league play and the road tri s killing. The JV's managed to score 761 points against 846 For their opponents. This difference came about mainly through poor showings during the early part of the season when inexperience was the main obstacle to overcome. Our congratulations to Coach Welch and his squad. Sayer, B. Bolton. SEASON'S RECORD To stimulate a more active interest in basketball and to develop better teams at a lower grade level, Salmon this year had its first organized Junior High basketball schedule under the direction of Coach Terry Armstrong. Although the Freshmen scored only 220 to their opponents 282 and the eighth grade scored l26 to their opponents l30, this is not indicative of the type of ball that these two teams played. What they may have lacked in experience and technique was made up for in both determination and aggressiveness. When you consider that these teams competed with teams from school systems where they have had this type of schedule for years, the record speaks well for itself. Showing well for the frosh were Ellis, Ankrum, Sayer, Edgar Smith, Mont Jones, Waldal, and R. J. Smith. High point men for the 8th grade were: Whitehead, Whiting, Herndon, and Walchli.
