You are one of four boys in your family. You attended grade school at Council Hill and Mor- ris, Oklahoma. You attended high school at Morris, Boynton, and Council Hill, Oklahoma. You attended Northeastern State College, Tahlequah, O. S. U. at Stillwater and University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado. You hold two degrees, a Bach- elor of Arts and a Master of Arts. You were married to Miss Lucille Garrett of Stilwell on January l, 1926. You have been a member of the state textbook committee, a member of the board of directors for Oklahorra Education Association, President of Northeast District, Oklahoma Education Association, Vice-President of the Oklahoma State l'1eart Association, director for Oklahoma State accrediting association for the department of Education, and member of the state legislative committee for O. E. A. Your philosophy is Don't let anyone be a better friend to you than you have been to them. Two outstanding events in your life were: winning high School Invitation Tournament, the first time a tournament was held at N.E.S.C. in 'l9l8, Recog- nized by state school administrators association for having served twenty con- secutive years in one school system. As Superintendent you seen' never to grow tired of listening to or caring for the problems, wants and desires af students and teachers. The type of dress, the worn out shoes, or the home they came from seem never to influence or al- ter your decisions. They always find a welcome in your office. Your lite of public service and devotion to your school and community has produced one of your fine qualities that of a crusader for human rights among all students and citizens. Your life, G. R. Hurd, may it be filled with many memories of men and women who are and will become doctors, teachers, lawyers, business managers, bankers, secretaries because of your faith in young people.
