R. HURD 411 N..-wgrr' ,Aff .,l.., z., 1 ....,4f 'li' is Su erintendent Salllsaw City Schools have continually made progress under the leadership of Supt. G. R. Hurd. When he became superintendent the school plant consisted of three buildings one at Liberty and two on the high school grounds. Today there are four buildings at Liberty including a garage for the busses, four buildings on the high school grounds and across the street a very modern gym with four classrooms attached. The number ol buildings has increased from three to nine. The football stadium has been rebuilt, also. Under Mr. Hurd's leadership the school has grown profes- sionally. The school has been a member of the North Central Accrediting Association lor several years. Many of the teachers now have masters degrees and others are working for their master degree. The school has grown in enrollment. Six large busses make two trips daily to bring in students from rural areas. The number oi subgects for Credit offered in high school is much more than some years ago. Today a senior has one required subiect. He may choose his other three sublects from a group of 25 electives. The extracurricular program has improved, too. Students may choose from many activities. When Mr. Hurd came to Sallisaw as coach his slogan was 'A quitter never wins and a winner never quits.' This phi- losophy carried over into other phases oi school has helped to make Sallisaw City Schools among the best in Eastern Oklahoma. Thanks, Mr. Hurd, for a 'ob well done. ---YEARBOOK STAFF BOARD OF EDUCATION President - Arvil N, Folks Vice President - Bates Furlow Clerk - Clarence Taylor Member - Gaylord Land Member - A. C.
