However, Eddie Vinson was born in Kash- ing, China. There are two sets of twins. They are Ronnie and Johnnie Ford, Charlene and Jewel Oxford. A continuation is made of the first grade phonetic program. Further development is made in reading abilities, by teach- ing new skills in the use of suffixes, prefixes, syllabication 1 f? rade and an advanced development of blends. ln addition to read- ing and numbers an introduction is made to Health, Spelling and Language. The most interesting activity is the Rhythm Band. They participate in school programs and all school parades. We have not been in school long enough to make history, but we do not hesitate to predict that some from our group will make history in reading and spelling as a result of our read- ing program. We think we have had an adequate reading program in the past, but nothing is so perfect that it cannot be improved. Four years ago we began a phonetic program in reading, which will do much to improve our reading and Spelling. Q if I tx By this method we are taught the sounds of the long and short vowels first, then the consonants. In this program we are not only taught the names ofthe letters, but the sounds they make and skills which enable us to use them in sound- ing out new words, thus developing independent reading, First grade teachers are Mrs. Margaret Wilson, Mrs. Sallie Farmer, Mrs. Grace McDonald, Mrs. Lavetta Smith, and Mrs. Irene Phillips.
