On Saturday, special events ruled the day when at noon, the dining hall served a delicious buffet. The game was off to a promising start for the Seagulls with the halftime score at Salisbury — 17, Madison — 14. Special halftime activities included a cross country meet and the crowning of the 1974 Homecoming Queen, Carolyn Adams. The Seagull harriers produced a powerful win by defeating the Rutgers team 19 to 44. The football team then Finished their season by dropping the game after a heartbreaking Madison touchdown in the last few seconds of play, ending the game 21 to 17. sAfwS yyvj mfrf — tS T I a « A W ' ' . The viewers warmed to Berger with his opening selection, “Mechanical Birth”. They floated, climbed, and laughed their way through the rest of his performance and brought him back for an encore. “Nightmare” carried the most impact. To a back¬ ground of “Mechanical” music Berger moved from serenity and peace to a turbulance that ended in a scream. “If you’ve never seen Keith Berger perform, perhaps you don’t REALLY know what silence is.” Keith Berger k 141 Black Student Union Plans Events For The Black Student Union highlighted Black Awareness Week with a week full of events. SSC Grabs The Greats 144 145 Barefoot Jerry Did Stinky Feet Turn The Crowds Away? Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolfe? or Whatever Happened To The “Co llege” Players? “Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolfe?’’ As I understood it, the SSC Theatre is for students interested in theatre to gain ex¬ perience in performing and technical work. This major production has been cast with an SSC instructor, two community residents, who as far as I know have nothing to do with the college, and one part-time student. This choice of casting might not be so irritating to me if all parts had been open for audition. The two lead roles, played by SSC Theatre Director Le- land Starnes and Sue Hess, were not open to student audition. If four people would like to put on a play and use the college for performance, there is certainly nothing wrong with that, but to call this the “College” Players is a flagrant lie. From the quality of past student productions it seems to me that there is ample talent in the student body to make it unnecessary to go outside the college for performers. Since the state puts up a large portion of the theatre budget for student productions, what’s going to happen when it is found out that the major production of the semester has only one student? Certainly casting Sue Hess and Jeff Rollins in two major roles will bring community support to this audience, but I for one will not be in the audience and Ihopeother students will join me in boycotting this particular production. When students start being in student productions, then I ' ll be happy to pay my dollar to see some good theatre. Moire MacDonald WSSC — ROW 1: J. Young, J. Tillman, B. Dunphy, D. Wilfong, E. His words are especially appropriate for those who complete college. Your generation’s cnador, sensitivity and desire for creative involve¬ ment are heartening signs that you will be doing more than just earning a living. You are graduating in a particularly difficult year. You will be faced with many uncertainities. But the opportunities that await you are even greater than the challenges. It will indeed be within your grasp to enlarge and enrich life in our society. As you make the decisions that will shap your course and that of your country, I hope you will keep in mind that one person CAN make a difference. Times have changed greatly since I went to college. But looking back on those days in the context of today’s world, I know that the same optimism and hope I shared with my classmates is very much alive in you today. I want you to know how much I admire your enthusiasm and determination, and how convinced I am that you WILL make a difference for America. I wish each of you the satisfaction that comes from doing your best at something you believe in. Gerald R.
