mm V ljpplpill SALISBURY MARYLAND JtjJUJ a+4JLg_ SL l 5 -(cO ° STATE TEACHERS COLLEGE I960 One of the major objectives of American colleges is the preparation of young men and women for the profession of teaching. The primary aim of State Teachers College at Salisbury, Maryland, is the instruction of those dedicated to the molding of young minds. YniHi The first two years of teacher education are devoted to the liberal arts . . . Individual intelligence testing then follows actual experience in working with and teaching children. Directing physical education activi¬ ties in the laboratory school Student teaching on the junior high level A science unit for the elementary child Wfjm Th e college campus provides inspiration for a variety of academic and social activities. Batter up The Queen of May A step away THE PRESIDENT’S WELCOME Thy portals stand , an open door Through which we enter lives of deeper wisdom These two lines from the Alma Mater are an expression of both the purpose and the opportunity offered by State Teachers College at Salisbury. The chief concern of the College is to provide a program and a climate of learning by which young men and young women are given the opportunity for that personal development that makes them cultivated and at the same time professionally competent to enter teaching. No college can give a student an education. The best that it can do is to arrange things in such a way that any student can get an education for himself. Going to college is an invest¬ ment in one ' s own self-improvement. The dividends from that investment will be determined to a large extent by the student ' s will to do, the will to learn, and his willingness to pay the price. The eagerness with which each strives to learn and serve, determines the knowledge and happiness he gains. mm DR. ROBERT ELDERDICE English MRS. FRANCiS FLEMING English MR.
