The Alumni Association of this college has the following objectives: To develop and foster an abiding loyalty for the college, to encourage active participation in all things that pertain to the betterment and growth of the college, to encourage the application of the highest ethical standards in teaching, business, and endeavor, by the exchange of methods and ideas to unite its members in the closest bonds of good fellowship and to cherish the memories of our association as students. Through these aims the Alumni Association serves and will continue to serve Salis¬ bury State Teachers College. ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE Working on the assump¬ tion that the student body desired to hold regular as- sembliees, the committee chairman, elected by the students, worked with Mr. Glenn, the faculty adviser in procuring for us numerous entertaining and education¬ al programs. Of great in¬ terest was Langston Hugh¬ es, modern American Neg¬ ro poet who read for us many of his well known poems, Mr. Clarke, from Washington College, spoke to us in commeration of Maryland Day and to add variety, the Wi-Hi Band of¬ fered a concert. Our own Glee Club performed for us on Easter. Mr. Branche Phillips, member of the Washington High School faculty, lectured on George Washington. These and several movies were ty¬ pical of the programs. How many were you able to attend? Sixteen flTHLfTIC ACTIVITIES Ruth Echcards , Billie Williams, Polly Liedlich, Jeanne Buryis, Sue Waterman Those cheerleaders had plenty of reason to cheer during basketball season. Remem¬ ber the final women ' s game? One loss, by one point after eleven straight wins! The men took six out of fourteen starts in basketball, won five, lost two and tied two games in the soccer tournament. The club shows a promising season now that baseball is here, but what will it be next year? With all their conflicts the group was a happy lot, and enjoyed the pleasures of working together, sharing experiences. Lesson plans, science experi¬ ments, methods courses, research papers, and visual aid projects are included in the pre¬ paration of the future teachers of America produced by S.T.C. Above all, they have absorb¬ ed and filed a wealth of subject matter on various subjects. Now they anxiously await their last year at S.T.C. when they shall bring to a close four years of rich associations and varied experiences and can apply their learning. At the beginning of the year the Freshmen, or Rats” received most of the attention of this class, but soon life changed to a whirl of open book tests, history book reports, re¬ search papers, themes, and other intellectual interests. The group found itself willing to search for knowledge that would help them determine the success of their life ' s work. Ideas and philosophies changed as the school year progressed. More and more decisions were reached, and then came time to make applic ation for teacher training. Another col¬ lege year was gone, and they hadn ' t done all the things they had planned to do. Their technique of indrocrination was so successful that we didn ' t dislike it or have time to acquire homesickness. It wasn ' t long before classes and activities became routine and began to understand and meet the obligations of college work. Suddenly the Frosh became club conscious, whether it was art, music, dramatice, photography, or education. Each found a place for himself and contributed to the Student Government Association by supporting its activities.
