A TENDER WORD SALISBURY SOUND is an industrially organized military unit, composed of officers, petty officers, and men of talent and skills necessary in accomplishing the many technical tasks to maintain military readiness. Such tasks include sea- worthiness of the vessel as well as power supply and machinery upkeep. Also, the many operational offices of the military mission such as the aviation repair and overhaul shops, the electronics installations, the communication center, ordnance capabilities, and hospitalization berthing and messing of seaplane crewmen add to the responsibilities that are so far-flung ashore. In this ship such tasks are concentrated into smaller, efficient units with such capable results that the Sea-Air Arm is farther reaching now than at any other time in history. The following pages will picture the personnel, and briefly illustrate the tasks so capably performed by men in this ship of such long, continuous service.
