PROLOGUE There was once a story of a man who was faced with the problem of putting two gallons of water into a one gallon bucket. Neither he, I, nor any other man was able to find a solution to his immediate problem. Trying to illustrate the missions, organization, work and membership of SALISBURY SOUND. in the few pages of this book is certainly difficult as the above problem. The story of SALISBURY SOUND and her crew is a mere sentence in an age old dramatic, history. Her mark of progress is small, it is true, but the accomplishents go far beyond her missions and contribu- tions to the present defense of the Free World of this mid-century era. Every officer of the flag and ship's company and every man in Sally Sound is engaged in training for more than iust a military service. We are also living under conditions that may strengthen our moral obligations as capable men, increase our understanding and tolerance of others, adding to the values of our lives subsequent to departing our ship. What is past is prologue , a wise man once said, meaning that the results of the future may well be based on the performance of the past and the present. In our efforts to accomplish our assigned tasks, it is always the hope of all of us that we may become better prepared to face the future. This book may serve to remind us that our prefatory in this ship might well be a prologue, a beginning, not an end. E.S. ROBINSON, Editor. 511, ,ZF 'tl 'E 1, 25 . 'Pla
