Because they have constantly and unselfishly given of their time and services in school programs and projects, particularly extracurricular activities, without hope for praise, recognition, or reward, we humbly dedicate this yearbook to Mr. Herman Dennis, our agricultural instructor, Mr. Edward Henry, our industrial arts in- structor, and Mr. Marion Waller, our physical education instructor, During our stay at Salisbury High, we can remember few exhibits, plays, or assemblies which would have been successful without the untiring efforts of these three men. We shall recall with reverence, as we march toward the future to meet our destiny, the unforgettable lessons that it is more blessed to give than to receive and that in human relations, caring means sharing. Because of the great concepts of living they have taught, not by words but deeds, we take great pride in paying tribute to these instructors whohave given us guideposts to follow through- out our lives. ee oe eee pedaa ee - State To Frincipal’s Wie eSSAGE This fine yearbook is a wonderful record of your high school activities and achievements, It shows that you have great pride and appreciation for your school, administration, faculty, par- ents and patrons, Now that you are graduated from high school, all eyes are turned in your direction. Senor Class Stistory |) . . . It is June, 1960. We have just completed the final chapter of our blissful high school years at iW Salisbury High School. We are inspired as we briefly relate our historical memories to you. September 54 was an exciting and rewarding year for the seventh graders, not only because we were entering a new school, but because we had the distinction of being the first seventh grade to actually begin in this - The New Salisbury High School, As eighth graders, we began to make ourselves known. Many ventured into such fields as Dramatics and Band. In Dramatics, Carol Bivans, Jacqueline Parsons, Eleanor Price, Thomas Dickerson, Richard Johnson, and James Stewart brought fame to our class, Edward Henry, James Only, Bonnie Whittington and Juanita Finney proved that we had musical, as well as numerous other talents, Hil We held our proud heads high as we became High School Freshmen, Our presence was felt more than ever when David Wright displayed his remarkable dancing ability in the Jabberwock, Augustus Dutton brought recognition in his brillant delivery in the Battle of Words, Finally, as we approached Senior High, we faced the problem of adjusting to this ever so sophisticated world, Jannis Bailey, Herbert Watkins and Edward Henry, Jr. joined the Basketball team which in 1959 won the Class B State Championship. The Junior year was one of the most exciting years of our school days, as the class was guided by the capable leadership of Gus White. Many of our outstanding juniors had the honor of taking the National Merit Scholarship tests. Joan Carroll, Carol Bivans, Alma Quinton and Jannis Bailey attended Girls’ State at Annapolis and Boys’ State at the University of Maryland. Baseball's first year at Salisbury High will always remember Edward Smiley, Alfonzo Hammond, Robert Wilson, and John Handy. The Prom highlighted this memorable year with the class presenting the theme, Sayonara. As we finally stood on the threshold of our Senior year, our emotion grew more intense. There seemed to be a conflict between our long awaited departure and our yearn to remain. Our activities were much 4 the same as those at our previous year consisting of sports, dramatics, music and numerous social functions. a Miss Renola Nutter was crowned Miss Salisbury High for the year '59-'60. She and her attendants, Joan | Carroll, Alma Quinton, Priscilla Tull, Mary Bivens, Fanseen Kelsaw, and Margie Dashiell will long remember their pleasant experiences. | | With the end of our school days rapidly approaching we reluctantly planned our closing activities, for | we knew this would be our last performance as a class. Here, several seniors were busily engaged in taking scholarship tests and in planning for college. Many were picturing themselves in United States Armed Forces uniforms, otheres were considering the various occupations that they would pursue after graduation. When the traditional activities of Class Night, The Class Play, Mom and Dad night, and the Baccalaureate Wi sermon were completed, we began to look forward to Commencement, As we received our precious diplomas on Commencement night, we understood the real meaning of, Let our grasp exceed our aim! 34 Oenror Superlatives Most Sfudrous JOY CROSSE AUGUSTUS DUTTON Tusti autem liberabunter scientia , (The lips of knowledge are a precious jewel. ) Most Likely lo Oucceed JOY CROSSE GUS WHITE Aut non temptaris, aut perfice, (Either attempt it not, or succeed. ) Best All-Round ee i OAN CARROLL NNIS BAILEY Jysest JS ersonalily , ee deat ep igpagm Act so as to elicit the best in others and thereby in JACQUELINE PARSONS ROBERT NUTTER thyself. “Personality is to a man what perfume is to é flower. 35 — a ‘ Lid ie ee al ae Best Public Opeakers ELEANOR PRICE DAVID WRIGHT Eloquence is mistress of all the arts.
