A Qfllass 'iglnsilarg A I-If 'F' ifsssffg In 19h7 just as the sun was beginning to peer through the lifting war clouds with rays of hope,there entered the portals of Salisbury High School a group of courageous youth intent on sharing in making this world a better place We, the class of '52', retrospect on what has taken place in the years l9u7 S2 In the former years we were anxious and proud to be freshmen of Salisbury High School With the desire of being the best freshmen class of the school, we adjusted ourselves to new faces ano teachers,and immediately began to work co operatively,keenly and earnestly It was in this year that Salisbury High School began to be embeded in our hearts In l9h8 the sun was shining brighter, many opportunities and new expe riences directed their rays and beams to greet us as sophmores of Salisbury High School One opportunity was that of participating in the Physical Ed ucation Club We had ten participants namely, Roxie Pinkett,Donald Wilson, Beatrice Mitchell, Velmon Savage, Catherine Wright, Alexander Furr, Mary Elzey, Alva Sheppard, Mervin Wright and Ann washington As the rays and beams multiplied thev unfolded hidden talent for the Glee Club Jeanette Turner was the pianist Other members were Sylvia Cottman, Voyd Dennis, Ruth Parker, Basheba Gordy, and Gretta Ennis The Dramatics Club would have missed Alice Taylor, Barbara Brooks, Dorothy Birkhead, Helen Church, Joan Henry, Maurice Bailey, Howard Cornish, Robert Morris and Gretta Gordy sadly if they had not been in our class this year The beams unfolded remarkable Club of the school Toyce Cottman was reporter and Beatrice y1tehn11 treasurer It was during this year BOPn1CB Long, Joyce Cottman, geagp1ce Nitchelland wanna Purnell attended a N H A meeting at Morgan State College with the dawn of a new school year, we began to work with great enthu siasm This year we had nine members to take an active part in the school band They were Marion Bailey, Dorothv Birkhead, Mary Hopkins, Clinton Camper, Everett Wilson, Walter Purnell, harold Jones, Grant Martin, Harry Church and Bernice Long The N was now in full progress with Jeanette Turner and Bernice Long attendirg a meeting at Bowie State College Wanda Purnell was vice president of the school during this year With the sun setting on tke horizon of a new year we entered once more the portals of Salis ury High School Our Junior year found us still happy to be students of an accredited school We were full of encouragement and had the determination to go forth and put the best foot forward We can never forget engaging in one of the most outstanding activities of the school year the Junior Senior Prom Because this was our most exciting activity, we worked earnestly and presented the prom with greatest of success Beatrice ltchell, our class president, gave the welcome address that night Ann Washington, Anne Goslee, Bernice Long and Jeanette Turner attended Douglas High at Baltimore Maryland in a modern dance group program for the teacher's convention with Wallace Hall acting as the drummer for the group Later on in tne sprlng, Jeanette Turner, Catherine Wright, and Mary Elzey attended a spring frolic at Maryland State College, Princess Anne, raryland Thayrepresanted Salisbury High School by doing one dance number called Varsov1enne I 5 : 0 , A progress for the N. H. A. Bernice Long became the vice president of the N. H- A- . . , .K n n - .I - . . H. A. Bernlce Long, our state vice pzesident f the N H A , attended a meeting at West Virginia state College Previously she attended a meeting at Morgan State College with Jeanette iurner acting as voting delegate In the fall of Sl we again entered the domain of our dear school the year progressed we watched, with mournful attitude, the sun cast its shadows upon our pleasant school encounter Durlng our senior year, Irma Nutter who was elected as Miss balisbury High, attended the homecoming game at Morgan It was during this year we the class of '52H were heart broken with nothing to mend our hearts Yes, there was consolation, but that didn't do any good We realized that we, as a class, would never see each other again and how much Salisbury High vchool had embeded itself in our hearts Our cla s history is probably like many other classes, but we feel that the encouragement and 1nsp11at1on given to us by the faculty of Salisbury nigh bchool will make us forever keep a space in our hearts for them we feel that the principal, faculty and sckool will be to the future graduates of Salisbury High vchool what the sun rays and beams were to us in finding success and happiness we my lx I U i' sf-S f ,,..-tifrg ,.. ,.,-- l fl I 1151?-J ff! sf 4 rl Q , Wag!
