Yes, be- cause a good crew worked hard on all teams and in all clubs. Juniors, with class ringson fingers, are everywhere. Really great is this class of 1956--next year's Seniors. Mrs . Frosh Monterey Santa Cruz Watsonville Monterey Salinas' coach Russ Messner can always be counted on to floor a good, dependable team. After losing eight boys out of the first ten, seven via graduation and one, Rody Conway, to West Point midterm, it was not expected to do much this year. But Salinas' pre -season showings left some of the fans gasping as they handed favor- ites like Campbell, San Jose High, James Lick and Monterey defeats. The Cowboyshad a good season ,losing only four games--two of these to college frosh teams. The high- spirited Cowboys made the powerful San Jose frosh team work for their 48-43 victory. The free -wheeling Cowboys went to the Tournament of Champions for the 2nd con- secutive year. Even though they finished on the bottom, they showed good sportsmanship and desire. Messner again faces the loss ofgraduation, losing starters co -captain Ron Critchfield, co-captain Jim Langley, Gus Andersen and transfer Bob Howard. Critchfield and Howard sparkplugged the Cowboys. Langley and Andersen aided in the rebound and scoring de- partments. Critchfield exhibited some of the best floor shows seen on the C.C.A.L. courts in years. Mike Storm, Larry Hitchcock and Norm Steinbach will be a vital asset in Salinas' attack next year. Steinbach, who led the team in scoring with a I7 point average, will be the only Ist stringer back. Norm hit for a tremendous 56. 6 percentage. Ron Critchfield Jim Langley CO-CAPTAIN CO-CAPTAIN TOP ROW: H. Nielsen, J. Langley, B. Loveless, N. Steinbach, M. Storm MIDDLE ROW: R, Jones, G.
