E. student. Many of the students are employed by Salina business firms for a few hours each day. Twenty hours of work a week is required for the three hours credit each semester. Students in class are graded by their employers and the teacher. Through Distributive Education students acquire many necessary skills, information and attitudes which help them to do better merchandising. Approximately twenty students out of Salina High's graduating class will enter some phase of retailing or merchandising. The D. E. Club sponsors a student Store in the Distributive Education room. The store is open during the morning hours beginning at 8 a.m. There is a wide variety of school supplies available. The club members co-operate in tend- ing the store. One of the high lights of the year is the employer-employee banquet in which the students are hosts to their employers. The in- structor is Mr. Victor Klotz. PR CTICE 0 -THE-JOB Every student enrolled in Distributive Education belonged to D. E. Club. There were twenty four members, and the dues were thirty five cents a week. To help pay for a part of the dues, they sold decals, ball point pens, note cards, and school supplies. The money the club raised for dues was used in the spring for an employer-employee banquet. The D. E. Club sponsored a hayrack ride on November 6. For Christmas they also planned many projects and parties. Listed are members of the club and the places employing them. Girls are: Phyllis Allison, Strand Theatreg Leota Berks, Watson Theatreg Barbara Burt, Watson Theatreg Virginia Carpentier, C. R. Aaron Merriman is employed by Weeks Food Market. In the past year he has worked in various departments. On-the-job training is illustrated by Mary Ann Mills. She is employed by Neely's Cafe. In the above picture she is serving coffee to a customer. Pat Kendrick has been employed by Shef- field's Furniture Store for a year. He was a salesman and also a delivery boy. In the above picture he is selling a radio to a customer. Myrna Laferre is employed by J. C. Penney Company. She is in charge of window displays. The displays are changed about once .-291 a week, so this is a very important job.
