Wide fifclmcimf Mr. W. W. Waring, principal officer of Salina High Schools has been Vice Admiral since 1929. During his reign in this office he has seen many buccaneers cross the bow. His student vigilance and great interest in health- ful living has endeared him to many. Mr. Waring has been, and is now, very active in city, state and country educational circles. During the war he served as Chief Admiral during the absence of Mr. Hawkes. Much of his shore leave is spent listening to good music. He is consid- ered a great Vice-Admiral by his many friends. af 746 Zee: . Mr. Charles E. Hawkes came 1 Salina as Admiral of the Saline Flea in 1938. Since then, he has been a cel tral figure in community affairs. In ac dition to his official capacity as Chie Admiral, he has also found time to leaf and take an active part in importan civic projects. In 1942 he went into the Armj Air Corps where he remained unti 1945. He then retumed to Salina tc resume his duties as Chief. His spare time, from official duties, ist given to promoting, counsel- ing and studying matters pertaining tc the betterment of Salina and the people who live in and near the city. He is popular with his administrators, facul- ty, students, and townspeople, all of whom have much confidence in his abilities.

Washington's skipper, Mr. Owen E. Hodgson, has manned this post for 20 years. Before assuming the job of skipper, he was a captain on the Schooner, Washington. Mr. Hodgson says the office is always open, and he is willing to listen to anyone with a problem. He maintains that the ship is for the underclassmen not the underclass- men for the shi p. Off duty, the Skipper enjoys hunting and keeps busy with civic affairs. C. A. Brooks skipper of the frigate. 'Lincoln . has been an officer for many fears. In 1930 he became the head ruler ff the sloop, Roosevelt . The following 'ear he was transferred to the Lincoln , where he has proved to be a top skipper. Off duty time is taken by his duties s District Commissioner of the Boy gcouts. He also strives to out hunt and rut fish his fellow officers and crew nembers. Mr. C. O. Scott has been affiliated with the Salina High Schools for 19 years. beginning his teaching here in 1930. For the past five years Mr. Scott has been Skipper of the Sloop at Roosevelt and teaches one class of 7th grade math. Previously he taught at Lincoln and Washington. Scotty attended KSTC at Emporia and the University of Colorado. The genial Skipper is a great favorite with his faculty and the Roose- velt Sloop. 9
