Wolfson, Meadows and Ringle, virtually broke even with Chapman through the first three legs, lout John Walk- er got the baton from Ringle two strides ahead of the Irish half-miler and sccn opened a gap that never was clcsed. In the strech the Chap- man half-milei loafed, thinking he was alone, and was nipped by Her- Clippinqs from The Salina Journal ingtonis closing rush. In the mile it was Wolfson, Reed Banker and Eberhardt. Salina I-liqh bchools W fr L25 JACK CLARK, Senior, Guard. Dependable and with a never-give-up spirit, Jack played for all he was worth in the games. He fol- lowed his man doggedly on defense and sank many high arching swishers from his guard berth. JOHN CROWTHER, Senior, Forward John did not see service in every game, but his cool- headedness made him a very valuable asset to the team. He was consistent and a good ball hustler. ARTHUR HALE, Senior, Center Dude,, used his height to the greatest advant- age and did his best work under the basket. Al- though not experienced at the pivot post at the first of the year, Dude developed into a steady untiring player. ALFRED HARGRAVE, Sophomore, Guard Al played a fine type of basketball this season. He is a good passer and should have two very suc- cessful years to come. BOB KAUFFMAN, Senior, Forward Swarming all over the opponents and fast cn the break, Bob prcved to be one ofthe main spokes in the Marccn wheel. He dribbled with the preci- sion of a clock and passed well. Bob moved here from McPherson early in the school year, BU TEAMS BOB PRINGLE, Junior, Forward Bob saw in and out service most of the season. Whether on the court or on the bench, he was al- ways eager for victory. RALPH SToLz, junior, Guard When Stolz got a hot streak, he usually scored from anywhere on the floor. He was also a good de- fensive player. BILL QUINLEY, Sophomore, Forward Size did not hamper Bill any as far as basket- ball was concerned. Full of scrap and fighting spirit, Bill was always in on rebounds and ready for a setup. Because he was transferred from Sacred Heart, Bill was unable to play the first semester. WILFORD MCCABE, Senior, Guard McCabe was one of the most accurate passers on the team and the coolest when the score was close. He saw action in nearly every game although handicapped by an ankle injury. ' JUNIOR PURDY, Senior, Forward With an excellent eye for the basket, Junior was number one in scoring honors. His play was regular and steady. PAUL PENNOCK, Manager Paul kept all the equipment of the team in tip- tcp shape and cheered for the teafn ffofn the bench.

.S l High Schools QI' To Washington, my Alma Mater, Do I pledge this bit of verse, Ever mindful of her memory Now for better or for worse. As I stand beside the waters Of a far and distant sea, I recall my high school teachers. Kindly may they think of me. Ever wondering if the building I-Ias survived the years gone by, Pondering on these thoughts of schooldays, For dear old Washington I sigh. May I wander to those doorways, Back again to sceres of yore, Hear the bells sound through the hallways, Where my classmates pass no more. ..l...ig-- QPWCIP S Lone, and weary, do I stand there Deafened by the rush and noise Did we also clamor loudly? Such a mass of girls and boys! How they rush from hall to classroom Shouting greetings to and frol I-Iow quiescent when the teacher Tells them what they all should ki.owl Do they learn it? Well, I wonder - Did we learn a French translation? Did we know who fired on Sumter? .. How to mix a physics ratfo ? They'll remember it eventually. Be discouraged? Don't despair! Really, Iill come back some day and Maybe, I will see YOU there! - A Senior
