Salina H iqll Schools I i aj ' K. i I r 4 v A QIZJSX., ' NA AND HB TEAMS F OTBALL JUNIOR PURDY, I-Ialiback, Senior Coming from Topeka in his junior year, Purdy earned two letters by his running, passing and kicking. He called signals and did a good job piloting the team. BILL SHEDDON, I-lalfback, Senior Bill's speed was shown in every game when he carried the ball on reverse plays and ran interference. This was Bill's first year on the team. EVERETT JUKES, Fullback, Senior Jukes battered the opponents, line every game and consistently gained ground. He lettered when a a sophomore but was unable to play in his junior year. BILL BROWN, Fullback, Junior Bill was very accurate in finding the holes in the opponents, line and was a good defensive player. JOHN CROWTHER, Quarterback, Senior John played the blocking back position and was always in the game playing his hardest until the last gun went off. RICHARD NETHAWAY, I-Ialfbacle, Senior Dick did not see as much service as some of the other backfield candidates, but gave his best in regular games or in practice. CLIFFORD WoLFsoN, End, Senior Although light for a wing man, Cliff was charg- ed with enthusiasm and the desire to win. I-le was a good pass receiver and always down fast under punts. CLIFFORD WILBUR, End, junior Tib was hard to block out and was always fight- ing his hardest, winner or loser. He was the best forward-pass receiver on the team. ROLLAND NELSON, Manager, Sophomore Rolly, who served as manager, was both effi- cient and dependable. His optimistic view of foot- ball events helped to keep up the morale of the team. HARoLD KOHMAN, Tackle, Senior Kohman was a stone wall on defense and could pile through the opponents' line on offensive play. Harold could always be counted on to fill a line gap. ELTON LARUE, Tackle, Senior Elr did not see as much regular service as some other lineman but could be relied on to play his hardest no matter what the score, LEONARD FRIEDSEN, Guard, junior Leonard's speed and weight made him a great interference runner. l-le had no mean ability to knife through che opponents' forward wall on defensive play. GLENN VAN CLEEF, Guard, Junior Van Cleef was a hard tackler, active and aggres- sive, and always was in the game giving his best. HARVEY MCARTHUR, Guard, Senior McArthur pierced through the opponents' line on the defense and was practically immovable on of- fensive play. He was often through the line to spill the ball carrier before he got well in action. fcontinued on next pagel 4 R ,df 1 -gk 5 3 T I

ALFRED HARGRAVE, Guard and Center, Sophomort Al started the season and played in the first few games at guard but later played as a reserve center. GARVIN VAN MATRE, I-Ialfbackjunior With a speed that made him hard to catch once he broke away, Van Matre gained yards consistently and should be a mainstay in the team next year. EARL PADFIELD, Guard, junior Earl was a constant fighter and a hard man to block out of a play. Earl did not see regular service this year, but should be a first-string man next year.
