By this plan the graduating Seniors are replaced by Sopho- mores. Freshman will not be eligible after this year, and the members must be ' h in t e upper fourth of their class in scholarship. The members do most of the desk work, keep the books in order. and meet once a week for instruction in library service. .-Xt this meeting they are taught the proper care of books, classi- fication. cataloging, and library methods. lfach day some member of the club is at the desk before and after school, and during every period. The library for its size. has a hne reference department, and one of the chief aims of the club is to make the library more accessible for the students.

ACTIVITIES DEBATE CLUB Late in November, the debate club started work with Frank Massard as President, Franklin Ragan as Secretary, and Mr. Soles, sponsor. Other mem- bers of the club were Isabelle Davenport, and Thomas Preecs, The state sub- ject selected for debate was Resolved: That the Federal Government should adopt the policy of equalizing educational opportunities by means of annual grants to the several states for public elementary and secondary education. Frank Massard and Franklin Ragan upheld the affirmative of the question 5 Isabelle Davenport and Thomas Preecs, the negative. Our negative team met the Leadville affirmative team here February 9. Attorney W. S. Rush acted as judge. Leadville received the decision. The return debate was held in Leadville February 16. Several other debates were scheduled with Florence and our local Public Speaking Class. HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS GLEE CLUB Last year the Glee Club entered the music contest in Alamosa and received! 2. rating of excellent. Money was raised to enter the contest this year from the! returns of the operetta Hansel and Gretel, sponsored by the Glee Club and from various candy sales. There was a great increase in membership this year as the number has been almost doubled. A Christmas Carol Service was held at the Methodist Church December 19, 1934, consisting of numbers from the Junior High Boys and Junior High Girls Glee Club, High School Glee Club and a few grade school children. Hansel and Gretel, staged in the High School auditorium February 15, was adapted from the operetta of E. I-Iumperdinck. Pianist-RUTH PENNELL. HIGH SCHOOL ORCHESTRA The high school orchestra under the direction of Mr. Mobeck has met each. Tuesday and Thursday during the school year. The organization numbered four- teen pieces. Franklin Ragan was student director. The orchestra played several numbers before the junior play. Q BACCALAUREATE SERVICE Baccalaureate services for the Class of 1935 are to be held Sunday evening, May 19 in the high school auditorium. The Rev. George Oakes will deliver the sermon assisted by other local ministers. The senior class, as is the usual cus- tom, will attend in a body.
