It has taken four years for this day. You are about to leave these hallowed halls of Salesian High School and begin a new phase of your life. Four years ago you came here a mere fourteen year old boy, and now you leave as a young man. The words of St. Paul are very appropriate at this time: When I was a child I thought as a child, I played as a child and I acted as a child; but now that I am a man I have put aside the things of a child to do the things of a man. ( I Corinthians 13 ) Your teachers have tried to make of you men, ready to start a new step in your life. For the past four years your teachers, coaches, counselors and friends have expended their total energies upon you in your best interests. We have given you our time and our best efforts in order to share our moral and religious values, and give you a top-quality education. On your diploma you will find the school ' s coat-of-arms and the school ' s motto: Pro Deo et Patria — For my God and my Country Our aim has been to prepare you to serve your Country and your Maker. I believe that in this we have succeeded. Salesian has trained you to seek your place in our American Society. It is now your responsibility to continue to make something of yourself and your life. Be a credit to Salesian and everything it stands for! Spread these ideals and religious values to all who cross your life ' s path. If you live by these principles all of your life, you will succeed in being The Man Salesian expects of you. Go forth Mustangs! Make Salesian Proud!
