' qqAsian culture day ASIAN CULTURE DAY A (lay honoring the cullure of the Asian students at Sal- csian High was hehi on Friday, January 18th. The object of the whoh ' program was to make the students of Salesian and the community aware of the cultural background of the As- ians. There was a skit on the internment of the Japanese- Americans during World War II, a talk on Identity by a for- mer Salesian student, and a miniature-tree display. The pro- gram continued over the weekend, with karate and flower- making exhibitions, as well as a Japanese tea ceremony. The Asian Culture program came about through the efforts of two people: Mr. Mike Sakamoto, a Salesian faculty member, and Mrs. Agnes Ashimine. President of the Mother ' s Club. Many thanks to those who assisted in the preparation and actual carrying out of the cultural program. 153

Among the other eeleljrities present were: singers Denise Faye and Torii Dalli, Dennis Day, Rudy Vallee, newscaster Mario Maeha- do. the rock groups Pollution and the Quintet, and Salesian s own Pr(]|ihets. We gratefully acknowledge these celebrities ' interest and eoneern in the future of Salesian High School, and wish to express our thanks to all concerned. 152
