His doctoral program was concentrated in Physical Geography and Fred had completed all the necessary coursework and was in the process of completing his dissertation at the time of his death. During his years at U.C.L.A. Janik studied under some of the more prominent Physical Geogra- phers in the country. His area of expertise was Physical Geography and his interest in our enviornment was without end. Fred Janik was a very dedicated and professional individual. His rapport with the students was ex- cellent and he always had time for the student who sought his help. His potential contribution to the advancement of the field will be greatly missed.
