0.6.1 If man could hear the great Creator speak His wise philosophies that mortals seek, What bird of Nature would be richly blest By being picked supreme o'er all the rest? Unbiased judgment prompts that Power to cheer The flute-like singing of the gifted thrush, Yet with affection would not care to hush The coarse loud jay whose antics make him dear. Then, too, the cardinal in flaming dress Could never make the bluebird's robe seem less. Where'er the orioles or starlings fly There'll ne'er be one less favored to the eye, For each, distinguished in his handsome hues, Presents an enigmatic chore to choose. The cheery robin cannot be denied, Nor can the golden-breasted meadow lark, One,s friendly presence gladdens every park, The other makes a home of pastures wide. Each has a place and need he must fulfill And live a mirror of his Master's will. Amalgamated - yet unique - we, too, Stand hesitant, our plotted course now through. The future mutely calls our flock to rise And seek the wide horizons of the skies. The heritage of Salem speeds our flight For here has grown each personality.
