Ing uf Elie Glipprr Svltip '. . Ollipprr Ship 9. E. 01. nut nf Salvm En Hurts linknnum Since war is a threat to all navigation some of the crew are, in a small way, trying to prevent future wars hy discovering the underlying causes of war and dis- pensing their knowledge to their friends. They invited Professor DeHaas of the Ship Harvard to speak to us hefore we weighed anchor in Xovember. Sailors who love to act hrought enjoyment not only to themselves hut to all of us who watched the productions Petticoat Fever , Birds Christmas Carol and the Tournament Plays. All were well appreciated hy our ship-hound mates. The Ships hulletin, The Log has spread our fame afar, It is the only paper from a New England Ship given tirst class rating in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association and in the .Xssociated Collegiate Press. It also received the All Colum- hia award for news writing in 19-ll. Mathematics, that vital part of navigation, took on new aspects for some memhers of our crew. Yisual aids was the huh of the wheel whose spokes included the use of the moving picture in mathematics, projection of slides, and Christmas tree ornaments of mathematical proportions. The forensic ahility of our shipmates must he reckoned with when we real- ize that six times they out-talked sailors from larger ships either hy short wave or hy an exchange of sailors as the ships rested at anchor. The ships Holy Cross. XX'orcester, Harvard. Middlebury. Boston Cniversity, and Rhode Island were all vanquished. More power to our mates. The Tri-Mu-a cluh for sailors from our home port and surrounding towns has heen working overtime to provide entertainment. Picnics, dances, howling have been enjoyed, and durmg shore leave m Fehruary the sailors saw My blster Tfileenn. -lohn Burroughs Clnh memhers have cooperated hy enlightening us as to Nature atter their trips to the Ropes Memorial, XYalke's Greenhouse, and nature hikes when on shore leave. .Ks we have entered each port we have always found the members Of the Travel Cluh ready to give us helpful hints concerning local points of interest. They have also conducted organized tours which any sailor could join if interested. lYith travel as the keynote of our education their help has heen invaluahle. l-l
