Jfuretnnrh HE senior annual of Salem Teachers College appears this year bearing for the first time a distinctive name. We believe that this name speaks for itself and truly symbolizes the traditions and ideals of our college. Salem, the third oldest teacher-training institution in the country, was opened in 1854 at the height of the clipper ship era when those greyhounds of the sea were charting their way through unknown paths, pioneering. opening the way to fresh enterprise. But while the clipper of the sea has long since passed beyond the realm of usefulness and into the limbo of memory, Salem. the clipper ship of education, still plies the seas of thought and continues to advance the fron- tiers of human enlightenment in the interest not of a single group but of the social whole. It is the hope of the editorial staff that the Clipper of 1936 has in a measure done justice to the spirit of the college of which it is a symbol, and to the student body whose memory it seeks to perpetuate.
