CLASS PROPHECY As we went 1ns1de I glance d toward the Off1C6 and sure enough there was J1m lean1 ng back 1D a platform rocker and le1surely smok1ng clgars Carolyn declded that she wanted some chocolates so she bought a box of them Whxle we were wa1t1ng 1n hne I happened to not1ce the clerk Her face looked so fam1l1ar that I had to look at her aga1n l then recogmzed her to be Martha Lauer When It came her turn to check out I asked her 1f she knew anythlng about Nancy Schafer She po1nted to the next checker and there was Nanc y checklng out grocer1es w1th all her m1ght Wh1le talklng to her We learned that she and Martha were both marr1ed but ne1ther of them had any ch1ldre n Nancy sa1d that most of the t1me she worked 1n the Lev1 department Just then a bell rang As the carry out ame 1n I recognlzed h1m to be John Thomas We learned from them that farthe r on down the road Charles Yoms and Harold Luke two more of our classmates were runmng truck farms and that they supphed the New York Paclung Company wlth all the vegetables they needed Yoms we learned wa s mar rled but had no chxldren Luke was the father of sxx chlldren all under ten years of age Th1s really s urp rl s ed us were 1n hlgh school By th1s t1me we dec1ded we should start for home We knew both our fam1l1es would be worrxed about us and we would also be late for our next show You see C ar olyn and I both play and s1ng at the G r and Old Opery 1n Nashv1lle Tennessee I have my own band and Carolyn IS my accord1an playe r Iam marr1ed to a local boy and have two daug hte r s Carolyn 15 marrled to a sxnger and has a son and a daughter We soared around for a whrle and C ar olyn dec1ded we had bette r go down aga1n to see 1f anyone could grve us d1rect1ons When we landed we saw a large br1ck bu1ld1ng Th1s we f1gured was a hosp1tal but we were very wrong It was the S1lver Spnngs Colorado Grade School. We telt sure that someone here should be able to g1ve us some dlre Ct1ons We entered the slde door and found ourselves 1n the c afe te r 1 a A pleasant faced woman was very busy w ork1ng on the menus I asked her lf she Could show us the way to the pr1nc1pal's offlce but I had no sooner spoken than I knew exactly who she was I had gone to school w1th her at Salem Lxberty and her name was W anda Buchanan She told us she was the head dletetlan We learned that she was marrxed and l1ved close to the school She sa1d she would take us to the offxce When we arr1ved there We knew the prlnclpal at once We d1dn't recall his name but when Wanda xntroduced h1m as Dave Gerken We reallzed we knew h1m very well . CLASS PROPHECY Th1s 1S the pllot of Sputnlk No 58 fthe former JGSS16 lvllf-Oflgl reportlng from C' Cv J F to statlon S L H S at Warner Oh1O I am now soar1ng around above Ph1ladelph1a about 90 rrnles up on th1s warm summer day of 1978 l have had a very lnterestlng trlp today At 7 OO th1s mornlng I p1cked up my old pal Carolyn Starr We dec1ded to take a lxttle sp1n and after soarlng around for a whlle we found we were lost We declded to land and see 1f any one could g1ve us dlrectlons to get back home We landed on a mounta1n Look1ng across the f1eld we saw a small house We knocked upon the door and who should open lt but our old pal Patty Hendershot Now Mrs Joseph Smlth We learned that she was the proud mother of tw1ns We asked her 1f she had rece1ved word that Lou1 s e Swazn was 1n the WAVES and Janet Mantel hved just over the h1ll from her She sz-nd Janet was marr1ed to John Jones and they had s1x ch1ldren She couldn't g1VC us the d1rect1ons we wanted so we left and started out aga1n stopped at an adm1ss1on house and read on a large slgn Lane's Speedway ' We wondered 1f he could be relate d to the Lane we knew 1n h1gh school Our cur1os1ty was aroused so we went over to see Who should greet us at the door but our old fr1end Gary Lane' He aske d us 1f we would l1ke to stay and watch the race wh1ch was to beg1n 1n one half hour We declded to stay as we weren't 1n any hurry to get home Whlle we were wa1t1ng for the race to begln we wondered around 1n the adm1ss1on house We were watchmg one of the men start a race car and suddenly Carolyn recogmzed h1m to be one of our old classmates Wayne Shllllng We went over and talked to h1m He told us that Dave Stevens was arace car mechamc and owned h1s own garage on the other slde of town The race was very excltmg but we left soon afterward We st1ll dldflxt have the d1rect1ons we needed On our next stop we found ourselves faclng a very beaut1ful large super market We wondered 1f any one person could poss1b1y have enough money to own th1S supermarket and the large clothmg store next door It was then we not1ced the name on the Slgn J T Kemp Sc Sons ' Th1s d1dn t mean much at f1rst but then I re membered a guy by the name of Kemp who had been 1n our class at school 4 f' ' . CLASS PROPHECY Wh1le we were talk1ng to h1m we learned that two of the glrls we use to go to school w1th were teachers there The f1rst grade te ache r was W1nn1e Neely now Mrs Davld Gerken Dave sa1d they got along very well and seldom had any trouble 1n the school He sa1d some of the boys were try1ng to launch some satell1t1es mn the sc1ence class and had been very sucessful so far Th1s re m1nded me of the exc1ternent we had around school one tmme when a boy's Engllsh tr1ed to launch one What was really surpr1s1ng was the SCIEHCC teacher She was Barbra H o ck e nb e r r y Dave expla1ned that they had few fallures w1th her careful 1nstruct1on Whlle we were talk1ng to Dave we learned that Loulse Brooks was marr1ed to Larry Keefer and that they had three ch1ldren all who were 1n school there We told h1m that we really must go We went up aga1n and s oare d ar ound for a wh1le F1nally look1ng down I notlced a large whlte buxldlng wh1ch on closer observat1on we recogmzed as the Adm1n1strat1on Bu1ld1ng for the Naval Academy located at Norfolk V1rg1n1a We presumed some one here should be able to glve us d1rect1ons We went through one could g1ve us the d1rect1ons to Nashv1lle Tennessee We were terr1bly amazed as the secretary was no other than Helen Baker Nlchols Helen told us she had a fxne boss to work for She s ugge ste d she call h1m for us to g1ve us the needed d1rect1ons He gave us the d1rect1ons we needed and asked us mf we have ever llvedaround Lower Salem Oh1o 1 told h1m I use to go to Salem Llberty and lt was then I recognxzed h1m to be Norman W1lk1HSOH After we hadtalked tohlm for a wh1le he asked us 1f we had heard from any of the other k1ds we use to go to school w1th We told h1m that we had heard from almost everyone of them We talked to Helen for a wh1le and she told us that Pat was a career man here 1n the Navy By thrs t1me lt was gettmg late so we had to leave And up we went agaxn We soared around for a whxle and Carolyn sa1d she was gett1ng hungry She sa1d she would hke to go down and get some thxng to eat We saw an a1rport 1n the chstance so we headed for lt When we landed at Mar1etta Oh1o we were greeted by an a1rl1ne stew ardress She expla1ned b e c a u s e of heavy 1ndustry Mar1etta had become one of the largest C1t16S 1n Oh1o We asked her 1f she knew of a good restaurant 1n that ne1ghborhood She d1rected us to the M1SS11e Amous R ock e t s h op about two blocks farther down the street It was then I looked at her really good and recognlzed her at once It was no other than Faye Peppel We always knew Faye .
