YEARBOOK STAFF CLASS HISTORY 7th GRADE Here come the fifteen Seniors riding down the long, hard trail of knowledge pulling to an abrupt halt this 31st day of May, 1957. Our journey started six years ago when we romped into the seventh grade with Mr. Moore riding herd on us. m We had an enroll Dorothy Patterson Veria Kidd Shelba Gerken Jewell Ullmann Bette Davis Frances Becker Billy Grosz Naomi Lent Martha Carpenter Verna Wasson Norma Clark Dorothy Ullmann ent of twenty-three, with the following enrolled: Wilma Hilverding Diana Lewis James Flowers David Buchanan Dan Buchanan Larry Hesson Larry Montgomery James Hall Irvin Wolfert David Ramage Ronald Barnes Jackie Smith entered the lst 6 weeks boosting our roll to 24 Mr Moore took us on a tour through Broughtons Frozen Food Locker the County Jail Marietta Times and the Campus Martius Museum We all went skating for awhile in the afternoon Sth GRADE During our eighth grade year we lost two of our classmates Dorothy Patterson and Ronald Barnes W also gained two members Marie Lucas and Billy Strauss but they left before the year was up When we took the eighth grade tests Billy Gross placed 4th 1n the county Several of us received the Honor able Mention Award Mrs Moore was our sponsor this year We had a skating party during the year a weiner roast the last day and also took part in the Minstrel Show along with the Seventh Grade At the Senior Carnival that year we had a booth of our own and sold novelties at which we did very well Junior High Majorettes that year were Shelba Gerken Jewell Ullmann and Bette Davis Martha Carpenter Naomi Lent Jackie Smith Shelba Gerken Jewell Ullmann and Bette Davis were Jun1or High Cheerleaders Bette Davis also served as a Varsity Cheer leader at the Washington County Tournament 9th GRADE The next year we entered high school with Mrs Brown as our sponsor We had seven new members added to our number Linda Seevers Wanda Griffin David Armstrong Marty Price Gwen Morgenstern Delbert Stover and Robert Burkhart We lost Larry Montgomery Our class officers that year were the following Jackie Smith President Bill Gross Vice President Bette Davis Secretary Treasurer Shelba Gerken News Reporter One half page sponsored by EATON S GARAGE Whipple Ohio 0' 1 I I . Treasurer PROPHECY At our weekly Brtdge Club Meetlng one of the members brought along a lady w1sh1ng to 1o1n our club As I looked at the new member she looked very fam1l1ar after talkrng a few m1nutes I reahzed who she was It was Verna Wasson an old classmate She told me how she had moved to New York marrled a r1ch man and had three chrldten rn college In the conversatron she mentloned that just recently she had recelved her 1nv1tat1on to the Alumnr Banquet In our remrnlscmg we realrzed that we hadn t seen any of our classmates slnce we graduated May 31 1957 After dec1d1ng to call all the members of our class and arrange for them to attend the Banquet we agreed to meet the next day and start makrng our calls We were surprrsed to frnd that the long dlstance operator was our classmate Norma Clark She agreed to g1ve us her help rn locatlng and callrng the remamder of our class The frrst call was to Larry Hesson who st1ll 11ved near Lower Salem He and Carolyn had three sons Then we located Bonnre Rlemenschnerder and found that she had made use of that weddlng rrng at last and that she and her husband had srx chrldren three grrls and three boys Another call led us to frnd that Shelba Gerken had marrted another classmate 11m Hall and they were lxvrng rn Texas Wllh two chlldten rn college Through another call we located Dorothy Ullmann 1n New York workrng as Elvrs Presley s prrvate Secretary handlrng all fan mall what there was of 1t at th1s ume We asked her 1f she had heard from Jackle Smrth lately She sounded surprlsed as she answered rn amazement Haven t you seen the movle mlere was held 1n Warner Our next call was to Columbus Ohro where we contacted Jewell Ullmann the flrst woman governor of Ohro and the only Republrcan Governor tn 20 years She told us that her old frtend Bette Dav1s had marrxed Davxd She had 1nher1ted several m1l11on dollars from some unknown uncle and that just recently had bought the S S Dav1s as a pleasure yacht for therr fam1ly We frnally located Frances Becker rn Lower Salem She told us that she was edrtor of the Lower Salem Da1ly Newspaper and taught at the Salem Lrberty Grade School When we questroned her about the remarnrng members of the class she sa1d Thrs rssue of the paper carrres an announcement of Verra Krdd and her husband s 25th weddrng annrversary They now operate hrs father s old DUSIDSSS and just recently had burlt a new home Another rtem was 1n honor of our former prrncrpal Mr Ullmann who IS celebrattng hrs 75th brrthday and IS the oldest actrve hlgh school prrnclpal 1n Washrngton County She also told us that another of the boys rn our class Irvan Wolfert had marrred and was managlng the Warner A and P Super Market A call to Washlngton and we found that Lrnda Seevers was Secretary of the Treasury Wh1le talk 1ng I told her I had never marrred and was teachrng Home Ec at a school rn New York Our Senxor Class sponsor Mr Lucas had retrred to hrs farm and was enjoyrng all hrs grandchrldren So all present and accounted for we showed up at the Alumnr banquet th1s year Gwen and Verna of her life?
