THE ORA-CLE . . , ,. . . , , . X ,, Glee Club O O O The C-lee Club, under the efficient directorship of Mr. l... C. Eley, has accomplished a great deal this year. Despite our lack of experience in the operatic world, we succeeded in giving The Gypsy Rover very creditably. Although we become tired and exasperated at many rehearsals, we try to make the best of the opportunity to have our voices trained. We sometimes wonder how the people living near S. H. S. can live during our practices on account of the ear-splitting tones which come from some of our songsters, but we sin- cerely trust our neighbors will bear in mind the old saying, practice makes perfect, and remember that we do expect to be perfect some day. Here's to the success of the Glee Club in years to come! C631

Secretary Gf all the student organizations in Salem l-ligh School, the Lyceum is the most important. The opportunities afforded in the regular bi-monthly meetings and in the various contests give the students a wide range of literary work. ' The object is not so much to develop silver-tonguedn orators, as to train the average student to think on his feet. Those who wish to further develop their forensic ability have ample opportunities in the state and local contests. This work is much like all other school work, the more we put into it the greater benefits we derive therefrom. Its importance cannot be over emphasized, for to be able to express one's thoughts, pleasingly and yet forcibly is an asset to any man or woman. The teams that have gone from the Lyceum have been an honor to the school, a credit to the society, and a great benefit to those who made the teams, as well as those who contested the place. One of the most interesting, as well as beneficial, events of the school year is the Recitation and Declamation finals, which are held the first night of Com- mencement. A gold medal given by Salem High is highly prized by any one winning it. C621
