There were times you were pushed, times you were shoved. You’re gone now, but you’ll always be loved. We all have feelings that we can never say. But we also know you were special in your little way. We regret the years we ’ll be apart. But through all of our years you’ll remain in our heart. Times we treated you bad we ll never forget. But you as our friend we ll never regret. Your on our minds as we re lying awake. Still on our minds ’cause it’s your life he had to take. Sometimes we force ourselves to smile, ’Cause you were our friend, if only for a short while. We ll never understand why He took you away. But our time will come also, then we ll be together to stay. 19 James Robert Abcunas Cooney “Do you?” Andrew Alantzas Amadeus “Much study is a weariness of the flesh” Ecclesiastes xii, 12 Brian John Anglin Wobbi Football 1,2, 3, 4; Basketball 1,2,3 Lisa Maria Anglin Basketball 1,2,3, 4; Softball 1,2, 3, 4; Football Cheerleader 2,3,4; Powder Puff 4 “Friends are Forever.” Zoila Maria Altamirano James R. Young 65 CLASS HISTORY 88 ” As we entered the high school doors for the first time, we were confident we wouldn’t fall for any of the pranks pulled by evil upperclassmen. We were different, we knew there wasn’t a fourth floor, ora pool. But our new found confidence was soon deflated by the task of finding out which homeroom we were in and how to get there with as little embarrassment as possible. There was little comfort in the color system seeing that there were blue lockers on green floor, orange lockers on blue floor and green lockers on orange floor. This was just a sampling of what to expect in the four years ahead. As soon as we received our schedule and made the mistake of going to the right class at the wrong time, we were off on a four year course of academic challenge. Socially, freshman dances seemed significant and to appear cool at all times was vital for high school survival. Our sophomore year came with a bit more experience and poise. We were no longer the youngsters and it was our turn to victimize hapless freshmen. We began to organize, elected our class officers, and with their help, we put together the Social, our first formal dance. We went gladly to the faculty show where we could laugh at the teachers and administration without fear of reprisal. We were ready — we didn’t know for what exactly — but we were ready to come into our own. Our junior year something inconceivable happened. So strange that it brought Lenord Nimoy and the entire In Search Of” crew to Salem High. No one thought it possible, but the fact remained shimmering underthe fluorescent lights. There actually was a pool on orange floor. We finally developed an immunity to the cafeteria food, but that didn’t help it go down any easier. We also came together as a class with mutual concern for our ketchup containers and the Orange Floor Pond. We were divided on the smoking issue but our points were well made and action was taken. While there were different individuals, different goals, different groups, we were one class. We focused then on what we hadn’t learned in our first two years. junior year we helped the seniors look excellent in athletics. We had a Cotillion and our first prom. We also had a scavenger hunt, U.S. History, and a lot of good times to remember. We came back to school as seniors with great expectations of the year to come. The Orange Floor Pond was gone and new chairs were placed in the cafeterias to stop the unsightly tearing of flesh and clothing. In athletics, we were as strong as ever, with the soccer team in the first round of the state tournament. The basketball team was the first team in Salem High history to be the undisputed Northeastern Conference Champions. The hockey team provided great excitement and although they missed the tournament by one point they beat their rival Marblehead three to zero. The baseball team made the tournament for the third consecutive year. With Nancy Morrissey as secretary, Scott Scharffenburg as treasurer, Karen Fabiszewski as vice president, and Kendra Palm as president, the class made more money than expected and put the extra money towards a trip to Riverside. All the money and work helped make a great Cotillion, second only to the Prom. Senior week was more fun than anyone could ask for and graduation was the apex of our success. This was it, 1 988, a year we have been waiting for since grade school. The schoolwork seemed to take a back seat to the biggest question we have faced yet: WHAT TO DO WITH MY LIFE?” In the past four years, the class of 1 988 has grown and learned. With luck we can face the question and answer for ourselves with confidence and wisdom. Because it is so hard to write about four years in four paragraphs, hopefully this yearbook will stir up more memories that I could not. As the class of 1988 moves on, we should say to each other, Thank you and good luck!” Mark Tuttle Class Historian 66 67 Boy ' s Soccer The boys soccer team, mostly seniors, made it to the tourna- ment for th twelfth consecutive Hall of Fame; iU. To the Class of ' 88 ' 1 never realized exactly how much work and time was needed to produce a yearbook. I knew it would be difficult, but that is an understatement. In the beginning, we had many people who wanted to be on the ' yearbook staff,’ but it soon dwindled down to just a few. I am very grateful to those ' few ' who did remain because if it weren’t for them this yearbook would be non- existent. Lisa Lombard’s art expertise was put to use on the cover as well as throughout the book; Karen Fab’s quick draw camera was always ready along with her eye for a great picture; Nicole Turgeon was a big help in the sports department; |ulie Williamson was always willing and ready to do anything that needed to be done; And Debbie Tomsho was always hard at work doing what was needed and more. I am very thankful to them and also Mrs. Gallo-Driscoll for taking over with the Ads and being there for support. I should like to wish all of you good luck in the future and I hope you enjoy the Witch 88 yearbook.
