our class advisors, were the reason behind the great success of our senior class. There were college applications to fill out, tests to take, term papers to write and so much more. With the responsibilities of being seniors also came the recreation. The fall brought a successful football season as well as the senior run concession stand which was the best place in town for a cup of chocolate and a hot dog on a stick. The football season was highlighted by the selection of Janice Hayes as homecoming queen and Pam Angelakis senior representative. The senior girls gave their best effort as they challenged Beverly in a hard fought Powder Puff game at the tradi- tional meeting of the two teams at Bertram Field. The class of 1985 added spirit to our Thanksgiving Pep Rally and Anne Keon was named queen of the rally. The junior-senior cotillion was held in January and a major snow storm did not dampen our spirits. Maureen Gauthier was selected queen and thanks to Pam and Kurt who shoveled the front walkway, we were able to leave o ur boots in the car. With the spring came senior hat day, senior slide, class trips, and the anticipation of our last day of school on May 24th. Our senior show, “We’re seniors, what’s your excuse?” under the direction of Sharon Rousseau, was a ton of fun and a huge success. Four years of meeting academic and artistic challenges and excellence were rewarded as 77 seniors were honored as recipients of scholarships and awards on May 28th at Awards Night. Senior week began with our beautiful Senior Reception “Heaven” at Page’s Colonial in Lynnfield, while Eric Couture and Tanya Ventre served as king and queen for the evening. The luau was, unfortunately rained out, but the field house was transformed into a Hawaiian paradise and a terrific place for the event. As our last social event as the class of 1985 we gathered for the traditional senior banquet. Tomorrow, Graduation Day, marks the end of our journey, the completion of four years of hardwork, challenges, and excitement. The friends we have made and the memories we share will forever hold a place in our hearts and minds. As we receive our diplomas, thus ending this phase of our lives, let us always remember, “The good times are the best times; the bad times fade away. The good times are forever, but now, baby, the last time is today.” Good luck my friends! Renee-Marie Kluge Class Historian . . . 1985 4

History On September ninth of 1981, an excited and somewhat apprehensive group of freshmen entered the doors of Salem High School to begin a journey through time that would last four years. As the youngsters on the block we showed our ’85 spirit by attending our first “high school” dance, our participation in Color Day, and our involvement in various team sports. We had many questions about our new school and were torn between the people we were of grammar school and the ones we would become over the years that followed. Freshman year proved to be a period of both change and adjustment. As the newness of Salem High wore off, we entered our sophomore year. It was a time for class rings, PSATs, and class elections. Elected officers were Pam Angela- kis — president, Janice Hayes — vice president, Eleanor Kapantais — secretary, and David Doward — treasurer, who through their overall hard work led us through a fun filled year. The Sophomore Social, our first social event as the class of ’85, was held this year. Our “Swing into Spring” was a great time for all who attended and the perfect way to end the second year of our journey. Junior year came faster than we could blink our eyes. We were finally the upper- classmen of SHS. This was to be quite an eventful year with the junior-senior winter cotillion, the junior show that never was, student government day, SATs, and so much more. This year Angela Colletti was elected president, Janice Hayes — vice president, Maureen Gauthier — secretary, and David Doward — treasurer. Our junior prom was held at Caruso’s Diplomat in Saugus and our theme “Almost Paradise” was most appropriate. As our junior year came to an end, we looked forward to September with a building excitement for we would FINALLY be seniors! The final year of our journey had arrived, and what a year it was! We had matured since our beginning days at Salem High School. We had made new friends, set goals to be achieved, and it is hard to believe that four years could go by so quickly — where did the time go? Our elected officers this year were Pam Angelakis — presi- dent, Beth Angeramo — vice president, Janice Carter — secretary, and Kurt Piemonte — treasurer. These four people as well as Ms. McGrane and Ms. Fecteau, 3
