History On September ninth of 1981, an excited and somewhat apprehensive group of freshmen entered the doors of Salem High School to begin a journey through time that would last four years. As the youngsters on the block we showed our ’85 spirit by attending our first “high school” dance, our participation in Color Day, and our involvement in various team sports. We had many questions about our new school and were torn between the people we were of grammar school and the ones we would become over the years that followed. Freshman year proved to be a period of both change and adjustment. As the newness of Salem High wore off, we entered our sophomore year. It was a time for class rings, PSATs, and class elections. Elected officers were Pam Angela- kis — president, Janice Hayes — vice president, Eleanor Kapantais — secretary, and David Doward — treasurer, who through their overall hard work led us through a fun filled year. The Sophomore Social, our first social event as the class of ’85, was held this year. Our “Swing into Spring” was a great time for all who attended and the perfect way to end the second year of our journey. Junior year came faster than we could blink our eyes. We were finally the upper- classmen of SHS. This was to be quite an eventful year with the junior-senior winter cotillion, the junior show that never was, student government day, SATs, and so much more. This year Angela Colletti was elected president, Janice Hayes — vice president, Maureen Gauthier — secretary, and David Doward — treasurer. Our junior prom was held at Caruso’s Diplomat in Saugus and our theme “Almost Paradise” was most appropriate. As our junior year came to an end, we looked forward to September with a building excitement for we would FINALLY be seniors! The final year of our journey had arrived, and what a year it was! We had matured since our beginning days at Salem High School. We had made new friends, set goals to be achieved, and it is hard to believe that four years could go by so quickly — where did the time go? Our elected officers this year were Pam Angelakis — presi- dent, Beth Angeramo — vice president, Janice Carter — secretary, and Kurt Piemonte — treasurer. These four people as well as Ms. McGrane and Ms. Fecteau, 3
