We opened up the following year as sophomores (or as it is defined, wise fools) on a bright note. We had a new football coach and the teams’ prospects looked good. The man from Maine guided those boys to a 5-4-1 record; not bad after a previous 1-9 season. We were becoming closer as a unit as evidenced when we supported Mr. Libby on that snowy day at city hall. This year also marked the elections of Rich Korzeniewski, Mary Soboczinski, Maureen Lee and Mary Crowley as class officers. Class History September 5th: This was the day we grew from the grammar school ranks into our high school years. We really weren’t sure if we wanted this day to come. All summer long we were filled with great curiousity and anticipation because we had been big shots in the eighth grade and now would be low men on the totem pole at the high school. We learned the ropes that year, sometimes the hard way. 1 still have my one dollar ticket to the swimming pool on the 5th floor. We ended that year with the satisfaction of knowing that we had taken our first major step toward our four year goal. 12

‘ Junior year came with the thought of moving to a new school. Feelings on this were mixed, some for and some against the big move. This problem was decided by the construction company; we were to stay. The football team captured the hearts of all with a superb 10-0 season. Our hearts were broken after a 1 point loss to Andover in the Super Bowl. We knew in our hearts who the champs were. We put on the minstrel show to raise money for class functions and of course we showed all what a talented class we are. Based on the theme The Spirit of “76” and against a backdrop of tremendous scenery, we sang and partied ourselves into history as one of the best classes at S.H.S. Before the end of the year, however, our spirits were crushed as tradgedy struck our class. One of our own, Bobby Connell, passed away. With his death a great loss was felt. We closed off the year electing a new leader, Paul Francis, and keeping the other officers intact. 13
