EDITORIAL As we entered Salem High School in September, 1961, we felt that high school gradua- tion would mark the end of an era in our lives. We have since discovered, however, that graduation is a beginning rather than an end ; we are embarking on a journey which will lead us through life to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The prize may differ for each of us, but the personal satisfaction will be the same. With our diplomas comes the first color of the rainbow; it is pale, but it promises future growth and strength. It is our duty to see that these promises are fulfilled. The next color of the rainbow will come differently to each of us. Some will discover it in college, others in the business world, still others in family life. This color will fore- tell our life’s work. Though there will be many lighter hues along the way, the last and most important leads each of us to our goal; this is the color of personal accomplishment and happiness. I can think of no greater wish for the future than happiness, for it encompasses all things to all people. We are all truly indebted to the faculty of Salem High School for developing our potential for the future. The rainbow leads us on. Linda G. Axelrod MR. FRANCIS CONNORS With the passing of Mr. Francis Connors, Salem High School stu- dents and teachers alike lost a true friend. A follower of sports and a great athlete himself, he will long be remembered by the sports fans of Salem. A big man in stature, as well as character, his shadow is cast indelibly over Salem High, and she and her students can rest assured they are under the watch- ful eye of a truly gentle giant.

3fn Bli ' mnrmm Ws To t hese three great men this yearbook is placed in memoriam The teachings, both academic and spiritual, of Mr. Cassidy Mr. Connors, and Mr. Hever will always remain endeared to us as will their loving memory. MR. RICHARD T. CASSIDY Mr. Richard T. Cassidy, loved and honored by student body and faculty, gave his best years in hard work and sincere devotion to the education of our students at Salem High. His work to develop the minds of so many, both in academics and maturity, was evi- dent in the many services he performed. Head of the language department and truly devoted language teacher, he vol- unteered his aid to the success of our senior functions. Mr. Cassidy’s twenty- six years at Salem High will always be remembered with heart-felt warmth, and his passing with deepest sympathy. Mr. Thomas Hever, English teacher at Salem High for ■six years, also gave his observant care to the betterment of our students. His ability was multiplied by his family life, giving him insight and experience in helping youngsters to become mentally mature and academically prepared. This great man worked hard to project his knowledge to the students, to give them the benefit of knowing as much as possible, and to instill within them the ability to reason and achieve better understanding. Mr. Hever was loved and honored by both faculty and student body. His memory will linger in our hearts and minds forever.
