' . ‘Just as the twig is bent, the tree’s inclined:’ During the last four years at Salem High School, we have experienced much. All of us have studied the subjects ' that were so ably presented in our Commercial, Vocational, Shop, and College Preparatory Courses, Memorable social events have been shared. These proms, sport rallies, and club activities have determined our conduct with others. At some time, we ambitiously decided upon our goals and our career. These past years were a time of growth — the ex- pansion of our education with books and with people. We are most fortunate that this developmental period was spent at Salem High School under the guidance of the faculty and in association with the members of the class of 1962. Our teachers have instructed us and we have learned from our friends. Now. we are almost adults. These so important four years have bent the twig to form a straight and stalwart tree with roots of truth, courage, and wisdom. The world awaits us, but we are not afraid.

EDITORIAL In Memoriam This past year the entire school has been saddened by the death of three close friends: Miss Ida Blossom. Miss Catherine Pratt and Mr. Jack Ginsburg. Miss Blossom had retired last year after forty-three years of service in the Commercial Department. Miss Catherine Pratt will long be remembered by the many boys who attended the Vocational School where she was secretary. This year’s graduates, together with many before them, will not forget Mr. Jack Ginsburg, class photographer and benefactor who initiated the Phyllis Ginsburg Yavner Memorial Scholarship Fund. f I .

Mr. Peter Carbone — Superintendent We. the class of 1962, pay special tribute to Mr. Peter F. Carbone by dedicating to him this edition of the “Witch.” For sixteen years Mr. Carbone had served as Superintendent of Schools in Salem. Prior to that, he had taught at Salem High School and later served as vice-principal from 1910-1943. Mr. Carbone is an honest and sincere public official, who has striven for the im- provement of Salem’s Schools. All of us have benefited from his excellent and loyal service. To him we owe a debt of gratitude, for he is truly an outstanding citizen.
