OUR PARENTS AND TEACHERS It is the purpose of this type of a literary dedication to express a sincere gratitude to someone who has contributed most signif- icantly to the education, development, or achievements of any class. No individual or group has done more for our preparation to enter this modern, troubled world than these— our parents and our teachers. The right of existence, the devotion and care, the encourage- ment and assistance, the sacrifices and aspirations— for these price- less gifts from our parents, we are eternally indebted. For their tireless efforts, their wisdom and guidance, their deep dedication and inspiring example, we are equally grateful to the faculty of Salem High. To our parents and to our teachers we dedicate this humble effort-the 1958 WITCH. PEPlCAW r

THE GOLDEN YEARS Four years at Salem High have just ended. Another chapter in the fas- cinating book of life has concluded, transforming children into informed and able young adults. From this steppingstone of high school, we are now ready to enter into the world and make our mark. We are ready for this adventure. Salem High has given us the priceless gift of GROWTH. With the education of the youth of Salem as its prime objective, the faculty of dedicated teachers has provided us with the intellectual op- portunity for MENTAL GROWTH. Skills, trades, and fundamental knowl- edge are the rewards for the combined efforts of teachers and students. The most obvious effect of our years here at Salem High is PHYSICAL GROWTH. Whether in interscholastic varsity competition, intramural activities, or physical education and health classes, we have shared in that unbeatable spirit that dominates every field of athletic endeavor from gridiron to cinder oval. SOCIAL GROWTH has been, perhaps, the most enjoyable. Learning to live with our neighbors, enjoying the benefits of mutual friendship- all have been gained through participation in extracurricular activities. The most important growth, however, is SPIRITUAL. We have learned to live to know ourselves and our fellow man, and above all, we have learned to meet the problems of modern society. The glorious era of high school is over. The Class of 1958 has joined the thousands of past graduates. Now, we, too, are a part of that noble tradition— The Salem High heritage. Yes, these have been truly wonder- ful years— times of gay laughter, tearful sadness, and hopeful dreams. We bid farewell, ALMA AAATER, with sadness and gratitude. Shall we ever forget you and these— the GOLDEN YEARS? Ralph Sloan Editor-in-Chief
