she is not teaching. She also enjoys traveling. She has visited Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Eu- rope. She intends to expand that list soon. Mrs. Frances May is a very deserving recipient of the Teacher Of The Year Award. For many years, she has taught her classes with an unbelievable amount of intensity. Even students who enter her classroom with little interest in biology eventually leave with a thorough understanding of the subject. Mrs. May has put a great amount of time into her lessons, hoping to give every one of her students a clear comprehen- sion of biology while adding spice” to an already interesting class. She cares about every student both in and out of school. Also, she has put a great deal of effort, time and money into Academic Challenge, a group of students who try to improve their knowl- edge of a variety of subjects by competing in many competitions. Mrs. Frances May has contributed a great amount of time in order to achieve excellence in her class- rooms, and the 1987 Quaker Yearbook is dedicated to her. On Wednesday evening. May 20, Mrs. Frances May was presented with the 1987 Teacher Of The Year Award. Mrs. May is a biology and advanced biology teacher at the high school, where she has taught for many years. Miss Frances Corso was born in Salem. She at- tended Salem St. Paul for elementary school and eventually graduated from Salem Senior High School. She initially attended Duquesne Clniversity in Pittsburgh, where she obtained a B.Ed. degree in the area of biology. She later went to Miami University, where she acquired a M.A.T. degree in botany. She began teaching at Allegheny High School in Pitts- burgh. After one year of teaching in Pennsylvania, she taught at David Anderson High School in Lisbon for five years. Then she came back to Salem, where she has been teaching to the present time. She lives with her husband, David, in New Spring- field. They do not have children, but instead house a variety of pets. She has several hobbies. Cooking, embroidery, and collecting (nativity scenes, candle holders, cookbooks) keep Mrs. May occupied when TEACHER OF THE YEAR Mrs. Frances May 4
