Interview with Miss Hasson: What made you choose the subject(s) you teach? «•I teach Civics and Geography. I enjoyed these subjects and found them interesting. Where did you attend college? • 1 went to Bowling Green State University and Youngstown State University. How long have you taught at Salem Senior High? “I have taught at Salem for seventeen years. Do you have a particular experience that you would like to share? No! At not least any that could be printed.” Why did you choose to teach high school students? “Because I can’t stand junior high kids. What kind of music do you like to listen to? “I like rock. Bruce Springsteen is one of my favorites.” Why are you interested in Academic Challenge? “I enjoy it because it gives me a chance to have contact with academic oriented students. interview with Mr. Rottenborn: Where did you attend college? “I went to Boston University and received my A.B. cum laude (Gov’t).—1970. I did my graduate study at Oberlin College in Ohio. I also went to Brown University in Provi- dence, Rhode Island. I received my Masters of Arts in Teaching here.” What do you like to do during your spare time? I like to read American Literature and books pertaining to American Government. A. Miller (playwright), Phillip Roth, John Cheever, and William Shakespeare are some of my favorite authors. Did you play football in high school? I played three years at Salem Senior High. I was quarterback and halfback. What did you teach at Boardman High School? I taught Sociology, World Geography, P.O.D., Psychology, Economics, American Society and American Government. American Government was my favorite class. We did a nine week role play of the United States Senate. How do you compare Salem High School with Boardman High School? Salem is a lot smaller. It is also my alma mater. I do not prefer one school over the other. I like Salem because it is my alma mater. I also like Boardman because I taught there for 13 years. interview with Mr. Turner: Where were you born? ”1 was borin in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Where did you go to school? “I went to Brashear High School.” What college did you attend? ”1 attended California State, Pennyslvania. What degree(s) did you obtain at college? I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. Have you taught anywhere else other than Salem? “I taught at Belvernon in Pennsylvania. What made you choose chemistry as your major? “That was my favorite subject. What are some of your hobbies? I like to cook. One of my favorite dishes that I like to fix is Spanish rice. I also like to play golf.”

Interview with Mr. Headland: Where did you attend high school? I went to Grennelt High School in Iowa. What college did you attend and with what kind of degree did you obtain? I went to Malone College. I received a BA in Social Studies. I also went to Youngstown where I got my MS In special education. Have you taught anywhere besides Salem? °l taught at Southern Local two years. What do you do during your free time? I like sports, (softball, racquetball, riding motor cycles) Are you married? Yes, my wife’s name is Carol. I have a son and a daughter. Dan is sixteen, and Stephanie is fourteen. Would you like to share anything else? I think Salem is a great town to raise your children in. Our school has a lot of good teenagers. I usually wear two different socks. I just grab two socks. (Interviewed by Sue McKinney) Interview with Mrs. Ward: Where were you born? 1 was born in Youngstown, Ohio. What are some of your hobbies? I like to cook, travel, collect antiques, and watch movies. What type of movies do you prefer? I tike comedies. My husband, Jim, likes serious movies. My favorite actress is Meryl Streep. What is one of your favorite places that you have traveled to? I love Venice. I went to Italy before I was married. I would like to go back with my husband. The history and culture of Venice intrigues me. Do you have any pets? “I have a dog and a cat. Slick, my cat, was a stray that came to the school. I took Slick home and she became friends with Chefsea, my dog, Have you taught anywhere else before you came to Salem? I taught kindergarten and second grade in Warren City Schools. I have been a counselor at Salem Senior High for fourteen years. Interview with Mr. Mucci: Where were you born? I was born in Youngstown, Ohio. Where did you go to school? I attended Ursufine High School. What college did you attend and what kind of degree did you obtain? 1 graduated with a Bachelor of Science and a Masters of Science in Education from Youngstown State University. Have you taught anywhere else before you came to Salem High School? Where? Yes, I taught at Youngstown City Schools. What aubjects(s) did you teach there? I taught Junior English for 1 year. What are some of your hobbies? I like to golf, jog, swim, travel, read and write. I enjoy reading supernatural, unusual, 1 historical novels, and spy espionages. (Interviewed by Traci Bettis)

Susan Bailey, Secretary; Sherri Hite, Treasurer; Tra- cy Pizzino, Vice President; Dan Solmen, President Seniors Fellow Classmates: I would like to wish all of you good luck in your future en- deavors We have come a long way together, and now we will be branching off in our separate ways to a larger, tougher world, but I think that the class of 1986 is more than ready I hope you have had some great memories, as I Dan Solmen President, '86 It has been an honor to serve as Vice President of the “class of 1986 for our impor- tant junior and senior years. So many big steps are made in these years, and I was fortu- nate enough to be involved in them. You have been a great class, Good luck, always.
