Something For Everyone! 2 And Everyone's Doing Something! And Spirit! A TRIBUTE TO THE WINTER OF '77 AND THE STUDENTS WHO ENDURED IT: No one will forget the winter of '77 when heavy snowfall, extreme temperatures, and severe fuel shortages brought the Jr. High students to the High School for classes. High School students attended during the morning session, and Jr. High in the afternoon. When warmer weather finally arrived and classes resumed their normal schedule, Supt. Ro- bert Pond said he was extremely pleased with the co-operation of students and teachers during the emergency situation . The Quaker Spirit and Tra- dition lives on! m mm jpif Living, And Loving The future for the class of '77 holds much promise. But some people have found that in shar- ing their future, their lives be- come even more fulfilling. In- dividual interests are not sacri ficed, and both benefit greatly SENIORS WILLIAM A. The 1-8-1 record was not an indication of the will- ingness and enthusiasm the Red and Black dis- played . The bright spot for the 1976 season was the running of Randy Me I linger who gallop- ed over 900 yards. Richard Karlis also dis- played the ability of booming punts and kicks. Other memorable moments came when Andy Bail lie picked up a fumble and ran 82 yards fora touchdown, and Brett Albright's ability to compete with pain and show leadership on the field. The 10 defeats were very close and could have gone either way. The highlight of the season was when the Quakers put together the best score in three seasons by shooting a fine round of 160, just missing the record of 158 set in 1974. The Quaker team was paced by seniors Alan Guchemand and Rick Mattix. The steady play of Kevin Guche- mand, Ed Stone, and Eric Burk create a bright out- look for the future. Under anew head coach, Mr. Bailey, and only three sen- iors, Chuck Wright, Bill Thorne, and Captain Ran- dy Fortney, the Quakers finished with a regular season record of 10-8. The season was one filled with many different highlights and disappointments. The team won games when they were supposed to lose, and lost when they should have won. The Quakers showed Salem that there are more ways to play basketball than by trying for high scores. The new style of aggressive basketball excited many people. A constant struggle for perfection in the final product, your yearbook, is achieved only through nine long months of scheduling pictures, drawing layouts, and rushing to meet company deadlines. The only major consolation to the staff conies in knowing they have started and finished one heck of a hard project, for words of praise from the student body are generally non-existent. So hey, student body, next time you see one of these kids, say Thanks' for all the work they've done for you. TO THE 1977 QUAKER STAFF: Here's a Hat's Off Salute to a fine, hardworking staff with whom it has been a pleasure to work for one long senior year. We've been through a lot together, and we surely won't forget the yearbook as a ma- jor part of our senior year at SHS. ca ADVISOR: Bill Esposito.
