K PR!-ISHN As the curtain goes up on another Quaker Annual, the members of the class of '40 are about to make their initial appearance in the greatest production of all, the drama of their adult lives, and Will take their places on the greatest stage of all, the World. In the pages of this book, will be portrayed the prologue to this, the most realistic drama of all, the drama of their earning a livelihood, and their pursuit of happiness. In this prologue, their high school careers, Will be all the necessary elements of any production. Comedy -the lighter side of school, the things that go on out- side the classrooms. Pathos-the heartbreaks which are a part of every student's life, the little things that make high school days unforgettable. And drama- the stuff behind the associations of some nine-hundred and seventy students as their lives are interwoven in class rooms and corridors during their stay in high school. Besides these things it must have that essential quality that makes it a school production, the restless energy and life which give it the snap and go of youth. Tradition says a yearbook, of any kind, will not get into the hands of its readers in exactly the form it Was planned. So it is With this yearbook. The read- ers do not see it as it first appeared in the imagination of the editor, or as the staff saw it as it began to take shape. However, this is no alibi, the staff has spent many hours of hard Work on it and although it is not fiavvless, We take pride in presenting this, the 1940 Quaker Annual. i I 5 ISI
