Class Prophecy One afternoon as I was sitting in study hall, I was feeling drowsy, and as I fell off to sleep I had a dream about my classmates of '53. It was concerning what they were doing in °63, Here is the dream as it was: Mary Sue Anderson and Doris Anne McGhee were top models for the Fit-em-Up Model Agency in Drexel, N. C., with Hal Rayburn as manager. Katie Mae Browning was owner of the ‘‘Drive-in-and-Dine-or Die’’ Restaurant, But, of course, that is only a sideline--she is married by now and has a couple offsprings. Betty Clarke has just finished writing her 3rd book. She won a prize for her 2nd book, en- titled ‘‘Who Hung The Hangman’’? Janette Clarke is taking over Milton Berle’s show next week. He just couldn’t outwit her. Lorene Smith Dobson has an increased family now but she is alsoa secretary for Farrell Poteet, who is now manager of Enola’s Five-and-Ten-Cent Store in Enola, N. C. Sherley Prewitt and Rex Mull are serving Uncle Sam, Rex is expecting to become a Cpl. soon--if he don’t get ‘‘busted’’ again. But Sherley is Master Sgt. now in the Air Force. Marjorie Cooper and Frances Duckworth have returned to Salem to replace ‘‘Si’’ Walker and Harold Hinshaw, They thought that they’d been there long enough. Mary Ella Greene is chief director of the American Thread Company in Marion, N. C., and also coaches a basketball team of girls who are employed there. Frances Garrison, Theola Stewart, and Barbara Duckworth are secretaries at the Skyland extiles @orsp. Jody Denton has just opened up the ‘‘Cheat ’em If You Can’’ Car Lot in which he features a slicked-up T-Model and several ’34 Fords. George Brown and Gray Carswell are pardners in a large farm in Buncombe County. They raise anything that’s ‘‘etable’’, including blackberries. Minny Bollinger has just added another building to her large orphanage located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, She also has a couple of orphans of her own. Beulah Huffman and Dorothy Anne Long have just returned from the mission fields of China, They’ve surely had a lot of influence there. Betty Jean Tallent is owner of a beauty shop, which has this slogan ‘‘We Kink-em or Pull- em Bald’’, with Edith Ross and Shirley Smith as chief operators. Ernest Stroupe is the new pastor of Hopewell Baptist Church, Donald McCurry is another ‘‘Dick Tracy’’ for the ‘‘Run-em Down”’ Detective Agency. Lucille Johnson is now head of the Salvation Army Organization, Betty Buff and Frances Freeman are her most active members. Bobby Joe Huffman is now owner of his own modern funeral home located at the corner of Fifth and Vine St. in Glen Alpine, N. C. As Bob would say, ‘‘People are just dying to come to us,’’ James Morrisey is his chief designer of coffins. Ned Roper is one of the pilots of the ‘‘Fly-em Quik’’ Airlines with Marguerite Poteet as chief stewardess. Cillar Smith has just won a title in the Olympics by swimming the English Channel, That energy must have come from eating Wheaties, Norma Jean Hull has the leading role in ‘‘South Pacific'with Joe Williams as her co-star and leading man, The Boston Red Sox have just signed up James Carswell as their leading pitcher with a $1,000,000 a year contract, Billy Denton has just won the Heavyweight Wrestling Championship title. His success is due to the ‘scientific method’’ by whichhe twists his opponents ears, Jackie Hull has just received her T.V. contract to sing on the ‘‘Signing Off’’ Program at 1 A.M, every Tuesday. Juanita Suttles is Chief Basketball Coach at Pilot Mtn, Elementary School. Oh! What was that? Mercy, that was the bell and I had better hurry or I'll be late for class. Class Prophet Lena Watts
